Alla lästa böcker i september/All the books I read in September

Ännu en gång kommer ett inlägg i sista minuten, men sån är jag. Hur som, i september läste jag 5 böcker, vilket känns helt ok. Det brukar vara det jag hamnar på i lågintensiva perioder. Tror dock att oktober månads lästa böcker är färre dock, men det märker vi om ca 1 månad.

Hur som, nedan har vi dem. Måste nog säga att "25 gram lycka" och "A pinch of Magic" var de bästa i högen.

Yet another post in the last minute, but that's me. Anyway, in September I read 5 books, which is okey. It's usually the number of books I read in low intense periods. I do however think I read even less in October but we'll know for sure in about a month.

Anyway, above are the books. I must say that "A Handful of happiness" and "A pinch of Magic" were the best of these books.

Månadens bok/Book of the month

Alltså, varför glömmer jag alltid av "Månadens bok" och kommer på det i sista stund? 😑
Men hur som, nu är det dags igen! Den här gången vill jag tipsa om "Labyrinten" av Kate Mosse.
Jag älskade den här boken när jag var yngre. Har läst den ett flertal gånger faktiskt.

Så här står det på baksidan av boken:

"I juli 1209 får en 17-årig flicka en underlig bok i gåva av sin far. Han hävdar att boken rymmer den heliga Graalens tvåtusenåriga hemlighet och att den leder tillbaka till det gamla Egypten. Fastän Alaïs inte lyckas tyda de främmande orden och tecknen på boksidorna, förstår hon att hennes livsuppgift blir att bevara labyrintens hemlighet och finna ett säkert gömställe för boken.

I juli 2005 hittar Alice Tanner två skelett i en bortglömd grotta i franska Pyrenéerna. Hon förundas över den labyrint som huggits in i grottväggen och inser samtidigt att hon stört friden på en helig plats. En plats som enbart borde finnas i det fördolda. På något vis har Alice blottlagt en fruktansvärd händelse i det förflutna, som samtidigt är hennes egna förflutna".

Why do I always forget to do "Book of the month" and only remember it in the last minute? 😑
But anyway, it's time for it again! This time I want to recommend "Labyrinth" by Kate Mosse. I loved this book when I was younger. I've reread it several times actually.

This is what the book summary says:
"In July 1209 a 17 year old girls is given a strange book by her father. He claims that the book contains the 2000 year old secret of the holy grail and that it leads back to the ancient Egypt. Although Alaïs can't interpret the unfamiliar words and signs on the pages, she still understand that it's up to her to keep the secrets of the labyrinth and find a safe place to hide the book.

In July 2005 Alice Tanner finds two skeletons in a forgotten cave in the french Pyrenees. She is amazed by the labyrinth that has been cut into the cave wall and realises at the same time that she's disturbed the peace of a holy place. A place that should only exist in the shadows. Some how Alice has uncovered a terrible event of the past, that is also her past."

Rooftoppers

Handling: Sophie är 11 år och bor i London tillsammans med ungkarlen Charles. När Sophie var relativt nyfödd hittades hon av Charles flytandes i havet i ett cellofodral. Ett skepp hade nyligen sjunkit i närheten och alla antog att Sophies föräldrar drogs ner i djupet tillsammans med båten.

Livet med Charles är enkelt men roligt. Det finns knappt några regler, utan de äter mat som serveras på böcker, ritar på väggarna, snyter sig i sockar och trots att Sophie är en flicka bär hon byxor och klättrar i träd, något som var absolut förbjudet för flickor i det viktorianska England. När den lokala socialtjänsten kommer på ett av sina rutinbesök går allt åt skogen. De tycker inte att Sophie uppfostras på rätt sätt och bestämmer sig för att flytta henne bort från Charles och in till en flickskola, där hon ska få lära sig hur en flicka/kvinna ska bete sig.

Både Charles och Sophie vägrar gå med på detta, så de flyr till Paris och där träffar Sophie på ett gäng "rooftoppers" - barn som lever på stadens tak. Kan de hjälpa Sophie att hitta svaret på var hon kommer ifrån och om hennes föräldrar fortfarande finns i livet?



Min åsikt om boken: Jag upptäckte att författaren till den här boken är densamma som skrivit "The Wolf Wilder" som jag gillade väldigt mycket! Även den här boken gick hem hos mig, då den var både mysig, rolig och lagom dramatisk. Spänningen var precis så där lagom, inte gastkramande men inte heller för långsam eller seg. Det var lagom balanserat av allt hela tiden.

Jag gillade också relationen mellan Sophie och Charles. Det var väldigt öppet och förutsättningslöst. Även om Sophie gjorde saker som kanske inte var så jättebra så blev Charles aldrig arg, utan han försökte förstå och sätta sig in i Sophies tankevärld. Det hade ju varit rena drömmen att ha en sån vuxen i närheten när man själv var barn. Sen gillade jag också att Charles var "omogen" på nåt sätt. Man måste inte göra allting på ett visst sätt, utan kan göra det på sitt eget sätt och att inget var konstigt för honom, annat än folks stela och tråkiga åsikter, haha. Han hade sitt barnasinne kvar kändes det som.

En väldigt bra och mysig bok som jag verkligen kan rekommendera! Den är både rolig, spännande och intressant. Det enda "negativa" vore väl slutet. Det var alldeles för abrupt. Känslorna hade byggts upp så mycket i hela boken så när slutet kom ville man ju ha det där mysiga slutet, då man känner sig som en del av karaktären. Det gjorde man även här, men det var liksom stort och explosivt. Man hann inte riktigt återhämta sig! Men det påverkar ändå inte min åsikt om boken. Mycket läsvärd bok!

Story: Sophie is 11 years old and lives in London with the bachelor Charles. When Sophie was just a baby she was found by Charles floating in a cello case in the ocean. There was a shipwreck nearby so everyone assumed Sophie's parents had died in the wreck.

Life with Charles is pretty simple but fun. There's hardly any rules, so they eat food served on books, draw stuff on the walls, blow their noses in socks and even though Sophie is a girl she wear pants and climb trees, which is not allowed for girls in the victorian England. When the local protective child services is on a routine visit in Charles' home everything back fires. They don't think Sophie is brought up the right way and decides to remove her away from Charles and in to a boarding school for girls, where she's going to be taught how girls/women are supposed to behave.

Both Charles and Sophie refuse to participate in the separation, so they flee to Paris and there Sophie meets a gang of "rooftoppers" - children living in the roof of the city's buildings. Can they help Sophie find the answer to where she comes from and if her parents are still alive?

My opinion of the book: I discovered that the author of this book is the same one that wrote "The Wolf Wilder" that I liked a lot! This book also hit home with me, because it's cosy, funny and has just the right amount of drama. The suspense wasn't too much but not too little either, just about right. Everything was evenly balanced throughout the book.

I liked the relationship between Sophie and Charles. It was very open and unconditionally. Even though Sophie might have done things that weren't great Charles never got mad at her. He tried to understand and put himself in her shoes. That would have been a dream to have a grown up like that when I was a kid! I also liked the Charles was a bit "immature" in a way. You dont have to do everything like everyone else, it's possible to do things your way and nothing was weird to him, except people's stiff and boring opinions, haha. He had a childlike mind in a way.

A very good and cosy book that I can really recommend! It's both funny, suspenseful and interesting. The only "negative" thing I could mention would be the ending. It came very abruptly. Your emotions had been building up throughout the whole book and so you want the ending to be good and cosy so you really feel like you're there with the character. And you did in this book, but the ending was kind of big and explosive. You never got the chance to recover! But it doesn't affect my opinion of the book. I thought it was very readable book!

Bokhög/Bookpile

Nu tänkte jag visa upp min bokshopping sen senast jag visade min inköp. Jag var ju iväg till Ullared med min kära moder och hon gick in i deras bokbutik medan jag sa "Neeej, jag borde inte köpa fler böcker!" men när jag väl var där inne var det ju kört... 🙈 Men det blev ju 6 böcker där så klart. Och nu i helgen hade vi ju en riktig shopping spree och då blev det ett par stycken. Jag vet inte ens hur många, men några stycken, haha. En del är helt nya, andra är fortsättningen på tidigare böcker.
Nu får jag faktiskt inte köpa fler böcker i år! Det är galet hur fullt det är i hyllorna. Vi får inte plats med våra serietidningar heller, så en dag snart får jag ju rensa lite och ställa böcker på hyllorna i sovrummet.

Hur ofta rensar ni ur era bokhyllor och har ni läst några av böckerna nedan?

Now I'm going to show you my latest book shopping. I was away with my dear mother to Ullared (a huge low price market) and she went into to their book shop while I mouned "Nooo, I shouldn't buy more books!" but when I got in there it was game over... 🙈 I bought 6 new books there of course. And this weekend we had our crazy shopping spree so I got some more books. I don't know how many but a couple, haha. Some are entierly new and some are the sequel to other books. But I am not allowed to buy any more books for the remainder of this year! My book cases are full. We don't have any room for our comic books so some day soon I'll have to clear out some books and but books on the shelves in the bedroom.

How often do you clear out your book shelves and have you read any of the books above?

Idag var maken iväg och sålde vår bil till en kollega. Efter att det var gjort så hade han bestämt att vi skulle åka ner till stan och "bränna ett par tusen" på Science Fictionbokhandeln, så det gjorde vi. Vanligtvis kan vi spendera kanske 1 000-2 000 kr/gång där, men nu slog vi fan rekord. Allt som allt gick det på 6 000 kr! Haha. Vi fick lite ett par blickar i kassan när vi dök upp med allt... 🙈 Helt galet ju! Men det hör inte till vanligheterna. Vi har dessutom inga barn och knappt några lån, så vi kunde roa oss för hälften av pengarna i alla fall. Resten ska maken använda till att betala av det sista av billånet och sen tvn.

Men hur som, jag köpte nya serietidningar och böcker (så klart), men också en Deadpoolmugg till jobbet och Hellboypins medan maken köpte manga och Magickort. Sen blev det även 4 funko pops (Flerken!😍) och ett par filmer som vi liksom köpte ihop. Blev väldigt nöjd och glad!

Brukar ni spendera mycket pengar i bokaffärer eller är ni mer restriktiva? 

Today Le Husband went away and sold our car to a colleague of his. After that was done he had decided that we should go down to town and "spend a few thoushand" at the Science Fiction book store, so that we did! Usually we'll spend around 1 000- 2 000 kr (93-186 euros or 103-208 US dollars)/visit there, but today we set a new record. All in all it came down to 6 000 kr (558 euros or 623 US dollars)! Haha. We got a few eyebrows when we paid for it all... 🙈 Totally insane! But it's not an everyday occurrence. We also dont have kids and hardly any loans or debts, so we could have some fun for half of the money. The rest will go to pay off the last of the car loan and then for the tv.

But anyway, I bought new comic books and books (of course), but also a Deadpool mug for work and Hellboy pins while Le husband bought manga and Macig cards. We also bought 4 funko pops (Flerken!😍) and a couple of movies together. I'm very happy!

Do you guys spend alot of money in bookstores or are you more restrictive?

The House with Chicken Legs

Handling: Marinka bor tillsammans med sin mormor som råkar vara den ökända Baba Yaga och deras hus råkar ha kycklingben. Huset förflyttar sig också land och rike runt utan förvarning och håller sig långt bort ifrån civilisationen, för Baba Yaga guidar det döda om kvällarna, det är vad man gör när man är en Väktare och det får inte de levande veta nåt om.

Marinka förväntas att ta över efter mormor när hennes tid är kommen, men det är nåt hon inte alls är intresserad av. Marinka vill hellre leva i närheten av de levande och uppleva vanliga saker, som att lyssna på musik, gå på marknader, dansa, gå på teater och så vidare. Men hon är förbjuden att gå längre bort än staketet som omgärdar huset (som är gjort av mänskliga skelettdelar!).

En dag träffar Marinka en livs levande människa och det blir starten av något som förändrar hela hennes liv, på gott och ont. Kan man förändra sitt öde och hur gör man det i så fall? Marinka upptäcker också att allt inte är som hon först trodde...


Min åsikt om boken: Det känns som att min beskrivning av boken gjorde så att den lät väldigt allvarlig och vuxen, haha. Men den är snarare tvärtom, en bok för lite äldre barn som gillar äventyr, magi och mytologi. Boken handlar en del om ensamhet och hur det kan kännas att från barnsben få höra vad man ska bli när man blir stor utan att egentligen ha blivit tillfrågad om det är något man ens vill bli eller göra. Handlingen är mysig och väldigt intressant. Jag gillade Baba Yaga som karaktär och jag tyckte även att Marinka bara blev bättre och bättre, ju mer hon utvecklades. Huset verkade också vara rätt kul, då det var ett livs levande hus och alltså inte bara ett hus med ben, utan en egen varelse.
Mitt i boken upplevde jag dock att handlingen blev lite tjatig och upprepande innan det började gå framåt igen, men annars var den härlig. Gillar man spöken, skelett och udda typer så lär man gilla den här boken. Passande för större barn att läsa nu i Halloweentider!

Ps, kommer även lotta ut ett ex av boken lite längre fram eftersom jag har två exemplar.

Story: Marinka lives with her grandmother, that just happens to be the infamous Baba Yaga and the house they live in just so happens to have chicken legs. The house also moves around in the world without so much as a warning and stays away from any civilisation, because Baba Yaga guides the dead at nights, that's what a Guardian does and the living can't know anything about it.

Marinka is expected to carry the torch after her grandma when her time has come, but that's not something she's interested in. Marinka would rather live closer to the living and experience ordinary things such as listen to music, visit markets, dance, go to the teather and so forth. But she is forbidden to go farther than the fence that surrounds the house (and is made of human bones!).

One day Marinka meets a living human being and that's the start of something that changes her life, for better or for worse. Can you change your destiny and if so, how? Marinka also discovers that not all is what she first thought...

My opinion of the book: It feels like my description of the book made it seem so serious and grown up, haha. But it's the opposite, a book for a bit older kids that likes adventures, magic and mythology. The book is about lonliness and what it feels that to hear from an early age what you're supposed to do when you grow up without even being asked if that's what you want. The story is cosy and interesting. I liked Baba Yaga as a character and I also liked that Marinka just got better and better the more the grew up. The house seemed fun as well, because it was alive and not just a house with legs but a living being.
In the middle of the book the story got a bit repetitive before it started to move forward again, but other than that it was just lovely. If you like ghosts, skeletons and weird people then you might like this book. Very fitting for older kids to read now when it's Halloween!

Ett ljus i mörkret/A light in the darkness

Jag har funderat ett par dagar om jag skulle berätta detta öppet så här eller inte för det är ingen "normal" historia. Men det kanske finns någon där ute som behöver höra den? Eller så kanske vi alla behöver det?
Jag kunde ha tagit den lätta vägen och skrivit att jag fick den här boken av min man men det skulle bara vara 10% av historien, för det här är inte bara en bok eller en gåva, det är nånting mycket större än så.

Så, för 7 dagar sedan sköts min svägerska till döds. Det chockad oss alla och är fortfarande helt surrealistiskt. "Men vad har det här att göra med boken?" kanske någon tänker. Tja, allt egentligen. Det är väl egentligen inte så mycket om boken i sig, utan vad den representerar. För några dagar efter den här mardrömmen började så var min man nere på stan för att köpa nånting åt sig själv, som tog hans tankar ifrån det emotionella kaoset han nu var fast i. Bara en liten stund av glädje som kunde distrahera honom ifrån sorgen han kände. Och mitt i allt detta, så tänkte han på mig. Han ville göra mig glad, trots att hans sorg är så mycket större än min. Han kände henne i 24 år och jag bara i 7 år. Det går liksom inte ens att jämföra. Men det är vad han gjorde. Han gav mig den här boken och det kanske "bara" är en bok, men gesten är så mycket större. Att mitt i sitt lidande tänka på någon annan.

 Och det är därför jag berättar om det här. Små gester av vänlighet kanske inte är en sån stor sak för dig, men kan vara det för någon annan som kanske har det väldigt svårt/jobbigt eller en dålig dag. De betyder något. Så, snälla ta hand om varandra och gör goda gärningar (små eller stora) för de omkring dig. Du kanske blir ett litet, men hoppfullt ljus i någons mörker. 💓

 

So I've been thinking for a couple of days if I should share this story openly or not, because it's not a "normal" story. But maybe there's someone out there that needs to hear it? Or maybe we all do?
I could have taken the easy way out and written that I got this book as a gift by my husband, but that would only be 10% of the story, since it's not just a book or a gift, it's something bigger than that. So here goes...

7 days ago my sister-in-law was shot and killed. It shocked us all and is still unreal. "But what does that have to do with this book?" you might ask. Well, everything honestly. It's not so much about the book itself but what it represents. A couple of day after this nightmare started, my husband went down to town to buy himself something that would give him a small moment of happiness, in the emotional chaos he was now trapped in. Just a brief moment of something that would take his mind away from the sorrow. And in his grief he thought of me. He wanted to make me happy, even though his so much bigger than mine. He knew her for 24 years and I only for 7. It can't even compare. But that's what he did. He gave me this book. It might be "just a book" but the gesture is so much bigger. In his suffering he thought of doing something kind for someone else.

And that's why I'm telling you this story. Small gestures of kindness may seem like nothing to you, but might be a big deal for someone who's struggling or having a bad day. They do matter. So please, take care of each other and do good deeds (big or small) for those around you. You may become a small but hopeful light in someone's darkness. 💓

Spegeln i rummet utanför

Handling: År 1673 flyr en kvinna från sin gård i Småland, bort från mord, förtryck och galenskap. På vägen träffar hon människor som antingen hjälper henne på vägen eller försöker tjäna en hacka på att hon är ett jagat byte. Kan hon undfly den ondska som jagar henne?

År 2006 lever Suset med sin man Classe och deras dotter Clara. Classe har varit mentalt frånvarande under flera månader och Clara vill inte umgås med sin familj, så Suset är ganska ensam. Hon är trött på sin egen familj och när hon besöker en äldre kvinna får hon en gammal skrivbok i handen om en kvinna som flyr för sitt liv flera hundra år tidigare och Suset är som uppslukad.

Min åsikt från boken: Detta är ett recensionsexemplar som jag fått av författaren och jag tackar så mycket för det! Tyvärr var inte detta en bok i min smak. Språket innehöll väldigt många (egna) liknelser, vilket ibland blev lite för abstrakt för mig, jag förstod inte riktigt vad som menades och det blev svårt att greppa helt enkelt.

I delen om Suset var det för många karaktärer att hålla reda på, som man också ibland hade svårt att förstå varför de var med, då de egentligen inte tillförde handlingen nånting. Boken kändes också lite för lång. När handlingen i sig var avklarad fortsatte boken ändå att rulla på och det kändes som att slutet var flera kapitel långt. Sedan så fanns det några skrivfel eller hur man nu ska uttrycka det, där Elsa istället blev till Emma, vilket ibland gjorde en väldigt förvirrad. Hände dock kanske bara 4 gånger eller så, men det störde ändå läsningen en del.

Jag gillade emellertid delarna om Elsa. De var riktigt bra, spännande och gripande. Där fastnade jag direkt! Det var lagom många karaktärer med och Elsa i sig var en intressant karaktär, så henne gillade jag väldigt mycket. Jag hade hellre läst en hel bok om henne och hennes flykt än om Suset och de andra människorna på ön Sanden. Jag upplevde inte att det fanns en röd tråd där. Exempelvis förstod jag inte det som hände Clara, vad var syftet med det? Och karaktären Villes betraktelser fyllde inte heller något större syfte. Det kändes som att det var många sidospår istället för ett huvudspår som med Elsa, där hennes berättelse var enkel att följa och hade en väldigt tydlig röd tråd.

Title: It would be something like "The mirror in the room outside".

Story: In the year 1673 a woman is fleeing her home in Småland, away from murder, oppression and madness. On her way she meets people that will either help her or try to make a buck off of her escape. Can she outrun the evil that is chasing her?

In the year 2006 Suset is living with her husband Classe and their daughter Clara. Classe's been mentally absent for months and Clara doesn't want to be around her family, so Suset is pretty lonely. She's tired of her own family and when she visits an old lady she is handed an old note book about a woman fleeing for her life, several hundred years earlier and Suset is engulfed.

My opinion of the book: This is a review copy that I got from the author, so thanks alot for that! The book was unfortunately not my cup of tea. The writing consisted of alot of (own) metaphors that was a bit too abstract for me, I didn't really understand what was meant and it was simply hard to get.

In the part about Suset there were too many characters to keep track of and also hard to understand why they were there, since the really didn't bring anything to the story. The book also felt a bit too long. When the story in itself was finished the book still kept going and it felt like the ending was several chapters long. There were also some errors or whatever they're called, where Elsa became Emma and it was a bit confusing. It only happened like 4 times or so, but it slightly disrupted the flow of reading.

I did however like the parts with Elsa. They were really good, suspenseful and gripping. I was stuck immediately! There was just the right amount of characters in those bits and Elsa was a very interesting character, so I liked her alot. I would rather have read a whole book about her and her escpate than about Suset and the other people on the island Sanden. I didn't feel like there was a a coherent storyline there. Like the thing that happened to Clara, what was the purpose of that? And the character Ville's thoughts and comments didn't really have a purpose. It just felt like a lot of sidetracks instead of a main storyline unlike the one about Elsa. Her story was easy to follow and had a purpose to it.

Jag deltog i en tävling förra veckan inne hos Isabelle Törnqvist, då hon hade en giveaway på sitt instakonto. Jag brukar oftast inte delta i tävlingar för jag vinner ändå aldrig (fast deltar man inte så vinner man ju inget heller, haha) men den här gången chansade och jag vann faktiskt. Kul! Priset var hennes bok "Fågeln" (läs mer om den här) och en fin anteckningsbok. Ska bli riktigt kul att läsa hennes bok, för jag har varit nyfiken på den.

 I participated in a contest that Isabelle Törnqvist had last week, when she had a giveaway on her instagram account. I usually dont participate in contests/giveaways because I never win any way (although if you dont participate you wont win anything either so... haha) but this time I took a chance and actually won! The prize was her book "Fågeln" (meaning "The Bird") and a lovely notebook. I look forward to read her book since I've been a bit curious about it.

Handling: Isabella bor på ön Joya med sin pappa. Byn de bor i består mestadels av lerhyddor och livet är ganska enkelt. Ön är uppdelad i en bebolig zon och en "förbjuden" zon. Ingen får träda över till den andra sidan om de inte har blivit förvisade av den girige och elaka guvernören Adori. Isabella råkar vara bästa vän med guvernörens dotter Lupe, som är något naiv och bortskämd men ändå väldigt snäll.

Isabella växte upp med sin pappas historia om andra länder och mytiska varelser som sägs ha funnits på ön. Ön själv sägs ha flutit fritt på havet, som en enda stor båt. Hennes pappa reste till olika länder och ritade upp kartor, men så fort guvernören kom till ön tog det stopp, något som både Isabella och hennes pappa sörjer över.

En helt vanlig dag upptäcks ett dött barn som Isabella kände från skolan. Ingen verkar vilja utreda vad som har hänt och detta gör Isabella arg. Saker och ting leder till att även Lupe försvinner och innan hon vet ordet av det är Isabella i den förbjudna zonen och letar efter henne. Där upptäcks det att alla de där myterna hon växte upp med kanske inte alls var just myter. Det kanske rent av var precis det som hände en gång i tiden och som nu håller på att upprepas...


Min åsikt om boken: Detta är en relativt kort bok som man kan läsa ut väldigt snabbt om man inte har något bättre för sig. Jag tyckte boken var helt ok. Även om handlingen i sig var rätt simpel vad gäller miljön den utspelar sig i, så har författaren ändå lyckats göra handlingen spännande och intressant. Jag gillar att boken innehåller lite myter som på nåt sätt berättar mer om själva ön och dess historia, för det var lite nytänkande på nåt sätt. I alla fall för mig. Man måste liksom inte förklara allt rakt upp och ner, utan kan linda in det i en annan typ av berättelse. Hur som, boken var bra och jag tyckte handlingen var lagom spännande. Jag kunde inte alls klura ut på förhand hur det skulle gå och jag gillade idén med en bok som utspelade sig på en ö mitt ute i ingenstans. En helt ok bok!

Story: Isabella lives on the island Joya with her father. The village they live in is mostly made up of mud huts and life is pretty simple. The island is divided into the inhabited zone and the "forbidden" territories. No one is allowed to cross over to the other side unless they've been banished by the greedy and nasty governor Adori. Isabelle happens to be best friends with the governor's daughter Lupe, who's a bit naive and spoiled but still very kind.

Isabella grew up hearing her father telling her stories of other countries and mythical beings that was said to have been living on the island. The island itself was said to have been floating freely in the ocean, much like a big boat. Her father traveled to other countries and drew maps, but as soon as the governor came to the island it all stopped, something both Isabella and her father mourns.

One day a dead child is discovered, that Isabelle knew from school. No one seems to want to investigate what happened and it makes Isabelle angry. Certain things leads to the disappearance of Lupe and before she knows it Isabella is in the forbidden territories looking for her. There she discoveres that all the myths she grew up hearing about maybe weren't just myths. Maybe that's exactly what happened a long time ago and is about to happen again...

My opinion of the book: This is a relatively short book that you can easily finish in one sitting if you dont have anything better to do. I thought the book was alright. Even if the plot/story line was pretty simple, considering the environment it took place in the author managed to make the story intreresting and a bit suspenseful. I liked that the book consisted of myths that somehow told the story of the island itself and its' history, because that was something new to me. That you don't have to tell the story the usual way but could like wrap it up in another story within the story. Anyway, the book was good and I thought the story was suspenseful without being too much. I couldn't see where the story was going or get any clues to it beforehand and I liked the idea of a book that took place on an island in the middle of nowhere. A nice book!

Handling: Seth är en ung kille som är kökspojke på The Last Chance Hotel som ägs av familjen Bunn. Familjen behandlar Seth rätt dåligt och han drömmer om att bli kock någon annanstans där ingen tvingar honom att diska, skala potatisar eller tar åt sig äran för rätterna han lagar eller bakar.
Hans mamma dog när han var barn och pappa försvann, så Seth är helt ensam kvar. Men som tur är har han katten Nightshade som han tycker mycket om.

En dag kommer ett fint sällskap till det ödsliga hotellet ute i vildmarken. Det verkar som att de ska ha någon typ av prövning eller test och ingen utomstående får veta vad som pågår. Seth ser till att göra både maten och desserterna till gästerna, även om Tiffany Bunn snor åt sig all ära. Mitt i allt detta faller en av gästerna ner död och det verkar inte bättre än att Seth måste vara den skyldige. Men han vet att det inte är sant. Nu måste han se till att bevisa sin oskuld, men hur gör man det när ingen tror på en och om magi dessutom är inblandat?


Min åsikt om boken: Detta är tydligen första delen i en serie, men jag är osäker på hur många delar det finns eller ska bli. Jag vet bara att bok 2 finns ute. Jag tyckte boken var sådär. Jag tyckte inte att man riktigt fick världen förklarad för en eller hur saker och ting fungerade. Sen kände jag också att boken upprepade sig rätt mycket. Någon spänning kände jag inte heller av. Det ska ju föreställa ett mordmysterie där de ska lösa vem den riktiga mördaren är och varför, men allt kändes rätt blaha. Kände inte heller att jag fick något band till huvudkaraktären Seth eller hans historia. Så nja, skulle säga att boken är ok, men knappt. Får se om jag läser nästa bok eller ej.

Story: Seth is a young kitchen boy at The Last Chance Hotel that is owned by the Bunn family, who doesn't treat Seth well and he's dreaming of become a chef somewhere no one is forcing him to do the dishes, peal potatoes or taking credit for the dishes he makes. His mother died when he was a child and his dead disappeared, so Seth is all alone. But fortunately he's got the cat Nightshade, that he cares for alot.

One day a fancy group of people arrives at the desolate hotel in the middle of nowhere. It seems like they're having some kind of trial/examination and no outsider is allowed to know what's happening. Seth is making both the dinner and the desserts for the guests, even though Tiffany Bunn takes all the credit for it. In the middle of the dinner one of the guests drops dead and it looks like Seth is the guilty one. But he knows it's not true. Now he must prove his innocence but how do you do that when no one believes you and when magic is also involved?

My opinion of the book: This is the first book in a series, but I'm not sure how many parts it's supposed to be. I only know that part 2 is out. I think the book was alright. I think that you didn't get to know how the world worked or what it looked like. I also felt like the book was pretty repetitive. No suspension was present at all. It's supposed to be a murder mystery where they're trying to work out who did it and why, but it felt pretty bland. I also don't think I got a connection with the main character Seth or his history. So, I guess I'd say the book was ok, but barely. Don't know if I'll read the next book or not.
