Månadens bok/Book of the month

Eftersom det går lite segt med läsandet för min del (spelar Assassin's Creed Odessey istället 😛) så tänkte jag att jag kunde vara ute i god tid den här månaden med månadens boktips!

Valet föll på The Gentleman av Forrest Leo, som handlar om en populär poet vid namn Lionel Savage. Lionel lever i det viktorianska London och får reda på av sin butler att de är bankrutt. För att undkomma fattigdom gifter sig Lionel med den vackra Vivien Lancaster för hennes pengar. Men kort efter giftermålet har Lionel förlorat all inspiration till sina dikter, vilket gör honom deprimerad och självmordsbenägen. Men vid just den tidpunkten råkar Lionel åkalla Djävulen, kallad "The Gentleman", utan att han själv inser det och han möter "Gentlemannen" på en av societetsmiddagarna som han avskyr. De kommer båda väldigt bra överens, men efter middagen är Vivien försvunnen och det är då Lionel inser att han har råkat sälja sin fru till Satan och nu måste han komma på ett sätt att rädda henne från Helvetet.

Den här boken är ganska humoristisk och Lionel är lite av en tölp på nåt sätt. Det är så synd om honom hela tiden och ack, vad han lider! Alla är bara i vägen för honom och hans geni och han är så inne i sitt att han inte ens inser att han har råkat sälja sin fru till Satan. Det är först då han blir lite ödmjuk och börja inse både det ena och det andra. Jag tyckte boken var underhållande och smart vad gäller handlingen. Kan verkligen tipsa om den!

Since I'm not reading that much right now (I play alot of Assassin's Creed Odessey instead 😛) I was thinking I should be out in good time with this month's book suggestion!

My choice this month is The Gentleman by Forrest Leo, which is about a popular poet by the name of Lionel Savage. Lionel lives in the victorian London and is notified by his butler that they're broke. To avoid poverty Lionel marries the beautiful Vivien Lancaster for her money. But soon after the marriage Lionel's lost all the inspiration for his poems, which is making him depressed and suicidal. But just at that moment Lionel happens to summon the Devil, know as "The Gentleman", without even realising it and he meets "The Gentleman" at one of the society parties Lionel hates. They both get alon really well, but after the party Vivien is missing and that's when Lionel realises that he sold his wife to Satan and now he must find a way to save her from Hell.



This book is pretty humoristic and Lionel is a bit of a schmuck in a way. He feels sorry for him self and oh, the suffering his in! Everyone is just in the way of his genius and he's so into himself that he doesn't even realise that he sold his own wife to Satan. But by then he gets a bit more humble and begins to realise a couple of things. I thought the book was entertaining and smart in regards to the story. I really recommend it!

Alltså, varför glömmer jag alltid av "Månadens bok" och kommer på det i sista stund? 😑
Men hur som, nu är det dags igen! Den här gången vill jag tipsa om "Labyrinten" av Kate Mosse.
Jag älskade den här boken när jag var yngre. Har läst den ett flertal gånger faktiskt.

Så här står det på baksidan av boken:

"I juli 1209 får en 17-årig flicka en underlig bok i gåva av sin far. Han hävdar att boken rymmer den heliga Graalens tvåtusenåriga hemlighet och att den leder tillbaka till det gamla Egypten. Fastän Alaïs inte lyckas tyda de främmande orden och tecknen på boksidorna, förstår hon att hennes livsuppgift blir att bevara labyrintens hemlighet och finna ett säkert gömställe för boken.

I juli 2005 hittar Alice Tanner två skelett i en bortglömd grotta i franska Pyrenéerna. Hon förundas över den labyrint som huggits in i grottväggen och inser samtidigt att hon stört friden på en helig plats. En plats som enbart borde finnas i det fördolda. På något vis har Alice blottlagt en fruktansvärd händelse i det förflutna, som samtidigt är hennes egna förflutna".

Why do I always forget to do "Book of the month" and only remember it in the last minute? 😑
But anyway, it's time for it again! This time I want to recommend "Labyrinth" by Kate Mosse. I loved this book when I was younger. I've reread it several times actually.

This is what the book summary says:
"In July 1209 a 17 year old girls is given a strange book by her father. He claims that the book contains the 2000 year old secret of the holy grail and that it leads back to the ancient Egypt. Although Alaïs can't interpret the unfamiliar words and signs on the pages, she still understand that it's up to her to keep the secrets of the labyrinth and find a safe place to hide the book.

In July 2005 Alice Tanner finds two skeletons in a forgotten cave in the french Pyrenees. She is amazed by the labyrinth that has been cut into the cave wall and realises at the same time that she's disturbed the peace of a holy place. A place that should only exist in the shadows. Some how Alice has uncovered a terrible event of the past, that is also her past."

Höll på att glömma av att tipsa om månadens bok igen, men än är det september! Haha. Hur som, jag vill verkligen tipsa om den här serien, för den är rätt originell och jag minns att jag tyckte väldigt mycket om den. Karaktärerna, världen, miljöbeskrivningarna och författarens berättelseteknik överlag fångade mig direkt. En sjukt bra serie!
Den första boken, som alltså är månadens bok heter "The Incorruptibles" och är skriven av John Hornor Jacobs.

Om jag kort skulle beskriva boken så skulle jag säga att den är en blandning mellan vilda västern, romerska riket med ett uns av steampunk och lite fantasy. Boken börjar med karaktärerna Fisk och Shoe, som är legosoldater. De är ute och rider i okända delar av Riket när de upptäcker en båt på en flod där en rik och mäktig adelsman semestrar med sina söner och döttrar. De tror allihopa att de är odödliga, men alla kan dö. Få människor vet vad som gömmer sig ute i vildmarken... Fisk och Shoe är vana vid korruption och girighet så de vet att man inte kan lita på någon annan än varandra.
Men mitt i all misär och ödemarker kan kärlekens låga uppstå på det mest otippade ställena. Men det kan även både olyckan och döden...

Jag vill inte riktigt avslöja mer, men den är full av action, intriger, udda varelser, magi och så mycket spänning. Riktigt bra!

I almost forgot to post book of the month again, but it's still september! Haha. Anyway, I really want to suggest this series, because it's pretty original and I remember that I liked it alot. The characters, the world with it's descriptions of the environment and the author's narrative technique over all just captured me. A really awesome series!
The title of the first book, which is the book of the month, is "The Incorruptibles" and is written by John Hornor Jacobs.

If I was to give a short description of the book I'd say it's a mix of the wild west, roman empire with a pinch of steampunk and a bit of fantasy. The book starts with the characters Fisk and Shoe who's mercenaries. They are out riding in the uncharted parts of the Empire when the discover a boat on  river where a rich and powerful noble man is on vacation with his sons and daughters. They all think they're immortal, but everyone can die. Not many knows what is hiding in the wild... Fisk and Shoe are used to corruption and greed so they know they can't trust anyone else but each other. But in the midst of all the misery and wastelands the spark of love can arise in the most unexpected places. But so can also misfortune and death...

I really dont want to give more away but it's packed with action, intrigues, weird creatures, magic and so much more. Really good!

Jag har ju helt glömt av att utse "Månadens bok" i augusti och eftersom det är sista dagen av månaden fick jag ju änna skynda på lite och utse en! Den här gången valde jag en bok som jag blev påmind om på instagram (minns tyvärr inte av vem) och som jag kommer ihåg att jag gillade väldigt mycket, nämligen Nefertiti: Dödsboken av Nick Drake.

Summeringen av boken lyder så här:
"Egypten, 1300-talet före vår tideräknings början. Det mäktiga paret farao Akhenaton och drottning Nefertiti, "den Perfekta", styr landet. De har dömt ut och avskaffat de gamla gudarna, utmanat det etablerade prästerskapet och skapat en ny tro. Detta maktspel har gett dem många nya vänner, men också ondsinta fiender som inget hellre vill än att se den nya ordningen krossas.

En dag är Nefertiti, Egyptens undersköna härskarinna, spårlöst försvunnen. Brottsutredaren Rahotep blir kallad för att lösa mysteriet. Han inser snabbt att staden vilar på intriger och maktspel, och att han inte kan lita på någon. En sak är säker: lyckas han inte hitta drottningen före utsatt tid kommer han inte levande därifrån."

Detta är tydligen första delen i en trilogi, vilket jag inte hade koll på, så uppenbarligen behöver jag införskaffa de andra två böckerna också! En riktigt spännande och underhållande bok som utspelar sig i det antika Egypten.

I totally forgot to pick a book for "Book of the month" in August and since it's the last day of the month I had to hurry and pick one! This time I chose a book that I was reminded of on instagram (don't remember by whom though) and that I remembered that I liked alot, namely Nefertiti: The Book of the Dead by Nick Drake.

The book summary reads as follow:
"She is Nefertiti—beautiful and revered. With her husband, Akhenaten, she rules over Egypt, the most affluent, formidable, sophisticated empire in the ancient world. But an epic power struggle is afoot, brought on by the royal couple's inauguration of an enlightened new religion and the construction of a magnificent new capital. This is apparently the first book in a triology, which I had no idea about, so obviously I need to get my hands on the other two books aswell! A really thrilling and entertaining book that takes place in ancient Egypt.

Då var det återigen dags för månadens bok! Den här boken har jag inte i mina ägor tyvärr, men jag önskar att jag hade det! Jag läste den här boken som tonåring och det är faktiskt den enda boken som jag har tyckt varit lite obehaglig/läskig. Jag läste om den flera gånger, bara för att jag tyckte den var så bra! Jag tror dock att boken fortfarande kan finnas bland mina gamla saker hos min far, men eftersom vi inte har någon kontakt kan det bli svårt att få tag på den. Om den ens finns kvar.

Hur som, detta handlar boken "Blodröda rum" av Eddy C. Bertin om:

"Den unga tjejen Tina är häxa och förföljs av mardrömmar, där en helt okänd tjej ber om hjälp. Hon är i desperat behov av hjälp men Tina vet inte hur hon kan hjälpa, men hon vet att hon måste göra nånting. Enligt magins regler kan inte Tina ta hjälp av sin mormor, som hon har ärvt sina magiska krafter ifrån, utan hon måste själv komma underfund med hur hon ska gå tillväga.

Detta leder henne till teatern Nosferatu som gäckar och utmanar henne. Hon känner sig nödd att öppna dess dörrar och gå in, men varje gång blir hon stoppad av katten Sir James vars röst hon kan höra i sitt huvud.

På teatern Nosferatu ska hennes vänner vara med i en pjäs som inte är färdig riktigt ännu, med den har den obehagliga titeln "Dödens röda rum". Den påminner om Tinas mardrömmar om blodröda rum och de mordoffer som är fångna där, kan den verkligen ha nåt med dem att göra? Vad Tina inte vet är att uråldrig ondska och mäktiga gudar är inblandade och kan hennes egen kraft räcka till för att bekämpa mörkret?"

Ps: Detta verkar för övrigt vara bok nr 2 i en serie om Tina. Bok nr 1 heter "Trettonde Natten".

It's time again for the book of the month! I don't have this book in my library unfortunately, but I wish I did! I read it as a teenager and it's the only book that I have thought was a bit creepy. I read it several times because I thought it was so good. I do however think it might still be among my belongings at my dad's but since we dont have any contact with each other it might be a bit difficult to get. If it's still there.

Anyway, this is what the book "Blood red rooms" (which I suppose the title would be, if it ever gets translated into english) by Eddy C. Bertin is about:

"The young girl Tina is a witch and she's tormented by nightmares where a unknown girl is asking for help. She is in desperate need of help but Tina doesn't know how she can help, she just knows she has to do something. According to the rules of magic, Tina can't get helped by her grandmother, who she inherited her magical powers from. She must find a way on her own.

This leads her to the theatre Nosferatu which is eluding and challenging her. She feel forced to open it's doors and walk inside, but everytime she's stopped by the cat Sir James, who's voice she can hear in her head.

In the theater Nosferatu her friends are in a play that is not finished yet but it has the creepy title of "The red rooms of Death". It reminds Tina of her dreams about blood red rooms and the murder victims captive there, does the play have anything to do with them? What Tina doesn't know is that an ancient evil and powerful gods are involved, so can her own powers be enough to fight the darkness?"
