Handling: I norra Sverige finns en borg som heter Salajak där hwitrer bor. Bland människorna är de kända som "troll" och människoätare. Pesten har härjat bland folket och när hela gårdar slaktas av mystiska monster vill de kvarvarande människorna hämnas. De tänker utrota de onda hwitrerna och erövra borgen Salajak.
Med på resan till Salajak är bröderna Samuel och Niklis Egg. Deras bror Torsten gav sig iväg en gång i tiden för att slåss mot samma fiender men kom tillbaka som en förändrad man och de yngre bröderna drömmer om ära. Niklis vill bli viking medan Samuel vill bli riddare. Men det blir inte riktigt som de hade tänkt sig...
I 1300-talets Sverige finns inte bara pesten och hwitrer, utan även féer och lindormar vid sidan av kungar, riddare och bönder.


Min åsikt om boken: Detta är en bok för barn mellan 9-12 år men som jag gillade väldigt mycket. Den är lättläst och karaktärerna kanske inte har ett djup i sig, men det gör inget för jag tycker handlingen är spännande ändå. Jag älskar att det är en blandning av historia, fantasy och lite folktro/myt. Det är inte så att man bara tror på tomtar och troll, utan de finns faktiskt. Konflikten mellan hwitrer och människor är intressant för man vet inte riktigt hur den började. Boken överraskar också, för inget är riktigt som man tror heller. Jag tyckte väldigt mycket om den! Ser verkligen fram emot att läsa nästa bok i serien.

Title: The title is just my translation, this book doesn't have an english title.

Story: In northen Sweden is a fortress called Salajak, where hwitrer lives. Among humans they are known as "trolls" and man eaters. The plague is ravaging the people and when whole farms are slaughtered by monsters the remaining humans want revenge. They're going to eradicate the evil hwitrer and seize Salajak.

On the journey to Salajak are the brothers Samuel and Niklis Egg. Their brother Torsten went to fight the same enemies once but came back as a changed man and the younger brothers long for glory. Niklis wants to become a viking while Samuel wants to be a knight. But things doens't really go the way they thought it would...
In Sweden during the 1300's there's more than the plague and hwitrer, like fairies and wyverns along side kings, knights and farmers.

My opinion of the book: This is a book for children between 9-12 years of age that I liked a lot. It's easily read and although the characters might not have a depth to them, it doesn't matter because I find the plot to be very suspenseful. I love the mix of history, fantasy and a bit of folklore/myths. It's not just that people believe there are fairies and trolls, but they actually exist. The book is also surprising, because nothing is at it seems. I liked it a lot and I'm really looking forward to the next book in this series.

Handling: Isabella bor på ön Joya med sin pappa. Byn de bor i består mestadels av lerhyddor och livet är ganska enkelt. Ön är uppdelad i en bebolig zon och en "förbjuden" zon. Ingen får träda över till den andra sidan om de inte har blivit förvisade av den girige och elaka guvernören Adori. Isabella råkar vara bästa vän med guvernörens dotter Lupe, som är något naiv och bortskämd men ändå väldigt snäll.

Isabella växte upp med sin pappas historia om andra länder och mytiska varelser som sägs ha funnits på ön. Ön själv sägs ha flutit fritt på havet, som en enda stor båt. Hennes pappa reste till olika länder och ritade upp kartor, men så fort guvernören kom till ön tog det stopp, något som både Isabella och hennes pappa sörjer över.

En helt vanlig dag upptäcks ett dött barn som Isabella kände från skolan. Ingen verkar vilja utreda vad som har hänt och detta gör Isabella arg. Saker och ting leder till att även Lupe försvinner och innan hon vet ordet av det är Isabella i den förbjudna zonen och letar efter henne. Där upptäcks det att alla de där myterna hon växte upp med kanske inte alls var just myter. Det kanske rent av var precis det som hände en gång i tiden och som nu håller på att upprepas...


Min åsikt om boken: Detta är en relativt kort bok som man kan läsa ut väldigt snabbt om man inte har något bättre för sig. Jag tyckte boken var helt ok. Även om handlingen i sig var rätt simpel vad gäller miljön den utspelar sig i, så har författaren ändå lyckats göra handlingen spännande och intressant. Jag gillar att boken innehåller lite myter som på nåt sätt berättar mer om själva ön och dess historia, för det var lite nytänkande på nåt sätt. I alla fall för mig. Man måste liksom inte förklara allt rakt upp och ner, utan kan linda in det i en annan typ av berättelse. Hur som, boken var bra och jag tyckte handlingen var lagom spännande. Jag kunde inte alls klura ut på förhand hur det skulle gå och jag gillade idén med en bok som utspelade sig på en ö mitt ute i ingenstans. En helt ok bok!

Story: Isabella lives on the island Joya with her father. The village they live in is mostly made up of mud huts and life is pretty simple. The island is divided into the inhabited zone and the "forbidden" territories. No one is allowed to cross over to the other side unless they've been banished by the greedy and nasty governor Adori. Isabelle happens to be best friends with the governor's daughter Lupe, who's a bit naive and spoiled but still very kind.

Isabella grew up hearing her father telling her stories of other countries and mythical beings that was said to have been living on the island. The island itself was said to have been floating freely in the ocean, much like a big boat. Her father traveled to other countries and drew maps, but as soon as the governor came to the island it all stopped, something both Isabella and her father mourns.

One day a dead child is discovered, that Isabelle knew from school. No one seems to want to investigate what happened and it makes Isabelle angry. Certain things leads to the disappearance of Lupe and before she knows it Isabella is in the forbidden territories looking for her. There she discoveres that all the myths she grew up hearing about maybe weren't just myths. Maybe that's exactly what happened a long time ago and is about to happen again...

My opinion of the book: This is a relatively short book that you can easily finish in one sitting if you dont have anything better to do. I thought the book was alright. Even if the plot/story line was pretty simple, considering the environment it took place in the author managed to make the story intreresting and a bit suspenseful. I liked that the book consisted of myths that somehow told the story of the island itself and its' history, because that was something new to me. That you don't have to tell the story the usual way but could like wrap it up in another story within the story. Anyway, the book was good and I thought the story was suspenseful without being too much. I couldn't see where the story was going or get any clues to it beforehand and I liked the idea of a book that took place on an island in the middle of nowhere. A nice book!
