Handling: Cicero lever i exil och måste hela tiden röra sig från plats till plats, då hans fiender jagar honom. Han måste lämna Italien helt och tillsammans med Tiro försöker han överleva så gott det går. Samtidigt har Cicero inte tappat hoppet om att återkomma till både Rom och senaten, så han kämpar vidare. Triumviratet bestående av Caesar, Crassus och Pompejus håller på att bryta samman och det verkar som att Cicero är den enda som ser vad som kan ske i slutändan...

Min åsikt om boken: Nu var det ett par dagar sedan jag läste klart boken, så mina upplevelser är lite vaga men hade ingen tid till att recensera innan jag drog iväg på en liten semesterresa. Hur som helst, Cicero blir lite knäpp under sin exil men ger ändå inte upp om att återgå till sitt gamla liv. Han avskyr verkligen Caesar men när de övriga i triumviratet har gått ur tiden och Caesar har gjort sig till en diktator, måste Cicero krypa till korset och be om nåd. Så länge han inte lägger sig i politiken får han fortsätta som vanligt. Men att hålla sig från politiken är som att ta en fisk ur vatten, så Cicero bryter snart det löftet. Han känns lite gammal och gaggig nu men också ganska självgod, lite som att han är den enda som kan rädda landet. Istället för att kanske pensionera sig och ägna sig åt att skriva böcker så måste han hålla sig vid maktens centrum och det är också därför det slutar som det gör för honom. Det är också därför hans familj slits isär men Cicero verkar antingen inte förstå det eller så bryr han sig inte. Det verkar som att han prioriterar landet före allt annat, förutom sig själv.
Jag tyckte den här boken var lite svagare än de två tidigare, den kändes lite hattig i handlingen men den var inte dålig för det. Tiro är fortfarande en favorit, han är så lojal och ödmjuk så man kan inte göra annat än att gilla honom. Överlag var det här en bra trilogi och jag tyckte att berättelsen om Ciceros liv var väldigt spännande. Är man intresserad av intriger och historia ska man definitivt läsa de här böckerna!

Han hade öppet tagit avstånd från deras kriminella metoder. De hade hämnats genom att göra det möjligt för aristokraten Clodius att väljas till folktribun. Story: Cicero is in exile and must move around from place to place because his enemies har hunting him. He must leave Italy entirely and together with Tiro he tries to survive as well as he can. At the same time Cicero hopes he still can return to both Rome and the senate so he fights on. The Triumvirate consisting of Caesar, Crassus and Pompey is on the brink of ruin and it seems like Cicero is theonly one who sees what it could lead to in the end...

My opinion about the book: I finished this book a couple of days ago so my thoughts are a bit vague but I didn't have any time to review it before I went on a small vacation. Anyway, Cicero goes a bit nuts during his exile but still think he can return to his old life. He really hates Caesar but since the other ones in the triumvirate is gone and Caesar has made himself a dictator, Cicero must crawl back to him and beg for mercy. As long as he doesn't involve himself in the politics he can live as he used to but to keep Cicero out of politics is like keeping a fish out of water, so he soon breaks that promise. He feels a bit old and senile but also a but complacent, like he's the only one who can save the country. Instead of retiring and write his books he just have to be around the centre of power and that's also why it ends the way it does. That's also why his family is torn a part but it seems like Cicero doesn't get it or doesn't care. It seems like he prioritizes the country above all else, except himself.
I thought the book was a bit weaker than the previous two, it felt a bit repetitive, it was a lot of back and forth, but the book wasn't bad because of that. Tiro is still a favorite, he's so loyal and humble, you just can't do anything other than like him. Over all the triology was good and I thought the story about Cicero's life was very excisting and suspenseful. If you're interested in intrigues and history you really should read these books!

During two years Cicero had stuck to his principles and refused to join the pact that Caesar, Pompey and Crassus had made - the triumvirate - to get power over the senate. He had openly distanced himself from their criminal methods. They got their revenge by making it possible for the aristocrat Clodius to be selected to tribune. When Caesar offered to make Cicero a legate in Gaul, which would have made him immune to Clodius's attacks, he had said no. He didn't want to fall into Caesar's trap. The price he paid for his firmness of principle had been exile, poverty and grief."

Nytt i hyllan/News on the shelf

Häromdagen insåg jag att jag behövde brevpapper och eftersom det inte finns brevpapper överallt (som inte är till barn) blev det ju att åka till Scifibokhandeln. Där har de importerade paket med brevpapper från Japan så brukar köra på det. Hur som, det gick ju inte att besöka butiken utan att kolla efter böcker!

Witches steeped in gold handlar om Iraya som tillhör en avsatt magisk dynasti och är försatt i exil. Hon har vuxit upp i en cell i önationen Aiyea. Men hon bidar sin tid för både frihet och hämnd.
Jazmyne är uppväxt klädd i guld med stulen magi i sina händer. Hon är dotter till den självutnämnda doyenne och hennes existens är ett hot mot hennes mammas styre. Men Jazmyne har inga intentioner att dö.
Svurna fiender ingår i en dödlig allians för att besegra kvinnans som hotar båda deras världar. Men hämnd är en blodig sysselsättning och inget är säkert, förutom hur långt både Iraya och Jazmyne kan tänka sig att gå för att vinna spelet.

Jane Eyre handlar om Jane som haft en jobbig uppväxt, där båda föräldrarna dog när hon var ung och hon tvingas bo hos sin morbror och hans elaka fru. Jane blir senare utkastad ur huset, där hon i princip levt som tjänare och tvingas gå i en skola för fattiga. Skolan drivs av en snål herreman som nästan svälter flickorna. Men det hela uppdagas en vacker dag och livet blir lite bättre. Jane blir en lärare men känner att hon inte kan stanna kvar. Istället tar hon jobb som guvernant och träffar Mr Rochester, som hon blir förälskad i och det är början på en omtumlande resa.

Piranesi handlar om Piranesi som bor i Huset, vilket han kanske alltid har gjort. Ibland får han besök av sin vän The Other men för det mesta är han ensam. Varje dag skriver han ner alla under som sker; labyrinten av hallar, tusen och åter tusen statyer, tidvatten som dånar upp för trapporna, molnen som sakta flyter runt i de övre hallarna. Men plötsligt börjar meddelande dyka upp lite varstans, det är någon ny i Huset. Men är det en vän eller fiende? Den värld Piranesi trodde att han kände har nu plötsligt blivit både farlig och underlig.

The other day I needed letter paper and since it can't be bought everywhere (unless for children) I had to go to the Scifi bookstore. They have imported packs of letter papers from Japan so I usually go with that. Anyway, I couldn't visit the store without looking for books!

Witches steeped in gold is about Iraya who belongs to an overthrown magical dynasty and is in exil. She has spent her life in a cell on the island nation of Aiyea. But every day brings her closer to freedom  and vengeance.
Jazmyne grew up dressed in gold with stolen magic at her fingertips. She's the daughter of the self-crowned doyenne and her existence is a threat to her mother's rule. But Jazmyne she no intention of dying.
Sworn enemies enter a precarious alliance to take down a mutual threat. But revenge is a bloody pursuit, and nothing is certain - except the lengths they will go to win this game.

Jane Eyre is about Jane who's had a tough upbringing. Both her parents died when she was young and she had to live with her uncle and his mean wife. Jane is later thrown out of the house, where she pretty much lived as a servant and is forced to attend a school for the poor. The school is run by a cheap nobleman who almost starve the girls to death. But his wrongdoings is soon discovered and life gets a little better. Jane becomes a teacher but feels that she can't stay at the school. Instead she becomes a governess and meets Mr Rochester, who she falls in love with and that is the start of a shattering journey.

Piranesi is about Piranesi who lives in The House, which he's always done. Sometimes he is visited by his friend The Other, but most of the time he's alone. Each day he records the wonder that happens; the labyrinth of halls, thousands upon thousands of statues, tides that thunder up the stairs, clouds that drift in the upper halls. But all of a sudden messages begin to appear, there's someone new in The House. But is it a friend or foe? The world Piranesi thought he knew now seem both dangerous and strange.

Handling: Cicero är nu konsul och ordförande i senaten. Ganska snart börjar underliga saker ske i Rom och Cicero kan inte undgå att fundera på om mörka krafter är i görningen. Caesars makt växer sig allt starkare och när en sammansvärjning hotar hela staden inser Cicero att han måste göra nåt. Men han inser också att allt han gör just nu kan komma tillbaka och förstöra livet för honom längre fram...

Min åsikt om boken: Som sagt, jag gillade ju första boken så mycket att jag började läsa uppföljaren på en gång och det var helt rätt val! Bok 2 är inte mindre spännande eller sämre än första, snarare tvärtom. Det är nu som intrigerna verkligen ökar i styrka och Cicero har fullt upp med att förhindra både fusk, mord och konspirationer. Det är också nu man får se en liten förändring hos Cicero, vilket var överraskande men också på nåt sätt förväntat. Makt korrumperar och Cicero börjar nu bli lite full av sig själv. Han ser sig som hela Roms fader och räddare, han berättar för allt och alla vad han har gjort och liksom skryter om sina insatser utan att själv inse att folk börjar förlora intresset. Det känns helt rätt med tanke på att hans karriär är på topp men också lite tråkigt, med tanke på hur sympatisk han var i första boken. Men jag tycker ändå det är helt rätt att utveckla karaktären och just åt det hållet, för det är lite oväntat vad gäller just Cicero, men ändå förväntat med tanke på hur det brukar gå när någon har makt. Det intressanta är också hur det kan gå när man är principfast och står fast vid det, att man hade en chans att stoppa någon, men med olagliga medel men inte gjorde det och personen kommer efter en sen. För om den personen inte skyr några medel så sitter man lite i skiten, så att säga. 

Hur som, ännu en jättebra och spännande bok i den här trilogin! Jag tycker som sagt väldigt mycket om Tiro som karaktär, han känns så ödmjuk och snäll. De övriga karaktärerna känns också välutvecklade så till den milda grad att jag köper precis allt som görs och sägs. Hade jag inte vetat detaljerna kring Tiros anteckningar/böcker om Cicero hade jag nästan kunnat tro att de här böckerna inte var historiska romaner utan biografier, så levande känns alla karaktärer.

Story: Cicero is now consul and chairman in the senate. Pretty soon weird things happen in Rome and Cicero can't avoid pondering if dark powers are at play. Caesar's power is growing and when a conspiracy threatens the city Cicero realises he must do something. But he also realises that everything he does might just come back and destroy his life in the future...

My opinion about the book: As I said, I liked the first book so much that I picked up the sequel right away and it was the right thing to do! Book 2 is not less suspenseful or worse than the first, quite the opposite. It's not that the intrigues really grows in strength and Cicero is busy with trying to prevent both cheating, murder and conspiracies. It's also now that you see a change in Cicero, which was surprising but also expected in a way. Power corrupts and Cicero is beginning to become a bit full of himself. He sees himself as the father and saviour of Rome, he tells everyone and all times what he's done and kind of brags about his achievments, without realising that people are losing interest in him. It's feels right considering his career is at its peak but also a bit sad considering how sympathetic he was in the first book. But I also think it's correct to develop the character and take that direction, but it's a but suprising because it's Cicero, but also expected because power corrupts. It's also interesting to see what could happen when you're principled and stand by it, that you might have had a chance to stop someone but with illegal means and didn't because of principles and that person later on comes after you. Because it that person doesn't mind using legal or illegal means to get rid of you, you're in deep shit, so to speak.

Anyway, yet another great and suspenseful book in this triology! I really like Tiro as a character, because he seem so humble and kind. The other characters also seem so well developed that I buy everything they say and do. If I hadn't known what happend with Tiro's notes/books about Cicero, I could have almost believed that these books weren't historical novels but biographies, because they feel so real.

Handling: Skrivarslaven Tiro har levt länge tillsammans med Marcus Tullius Cicero och i sin ålderdom bestämmer han sig för att skriva om Ciceros liv och väg in i senaten i antika Rom. Det hela började när en skräckslagen man knackar på hos Cicero och ber om hjälp med ståthållaren över Sicilien. Om Cicero sköter sina kort väl kan det här bli vägen in i maktens centrum. Men han är inte den enda med det målet i sikte, den förmögna Crassus, den sluga Caesar och generalen Pompejus vill alla nå toppen och skyr inga medel. Det gäller att Cicero verkligen håller huvudet på skaft för att inte råka illa ut...

Min åsikt om boken: Jag måste säga att boken var bra mycket bättre än jag först förväntade mig! Jag har läst en av författarens böcker tidigare och tyckte att den var ok. Rätt seg men lite intressant ändå. Så jag hade inga höga förhoppningar när jag plocka upp denna men oj, vad fel jag hade! Handlingen flyter på i ett bra tempo och Cicero är en väldigt intressanta karaktär som aldrig slutar förvåna en. Tiro är också en mycket sympatisk och intelligent person, som faktiskt uppfann snabbskriften (stenografi) och på så sätt gjorde sig själv både oersättlig och odödlig. Han blev till slut en alltiallo och höll sig alltid vid Ciceros sida. Det jag beundrar Cicero mest är hans strävan efter makt utan en hint av korruption. Han vill definitiv förbättra sin egen ställning men är också mån om folket och det krävs en hel del för att stå emot mutor och mer makt, men det gör han. Han har sina principer och han står fast vid dem. Han spelar bara spelet när någon tvingar honom, annars försöker han röra sig runt det. Det lättaste är ju alltid att släppa efter och göra som alla andra, eftersom makt korrumperar. Jag beundrar alltid människor som står fast vid det de tror på! Cicero är också en underdog och jag är väldigt svag för såna personer. Han hade inte någon förmögenhet eller kom från en känd familj. Han fick slåss för varje liten bit, när andra kunde både köpa eller muta sig till samma ställning flera gånger om.
Handlingen är stundtals lite seg med långa monologer och miljöbeskrivningar, men de tillför ändå nånting så jag har inte så mycket emot dem, för resten är så himla spännande. Så fort jag hade läst klart den här började jag direkt på den andra boken, för jag kunde inte släppa varken Tiro eller Cicero!

Story: The secretary and slave Tiro has lived a long life with Marcus Tullius Cicero and in his old age he decides to write about the life of Cicero and his way into the senate in ancient Rome. It all started when a terrified man knocks on Cicero's door and asks for help with the governor of Sicily. If Cicero plays his cards right this could be the way into the centre of power. But he's not the only one with this goal, the wealthy Crassus, the cunning Caesar and the general Pompejus all want to reach the top and will stop at nothing to get there. Cicero must keep his wits about him to not end up in danger...

My opinion about the book: I must say that this book was a lot better than I expected! I've read one of the author's books before and thought it was alright. A bit slow but somewhat interesting. So I didn't have high expectations when I picked this book up, but I was so wrong! The story has a really good pace and Cicero is a very interesting character that never ceases to amaze me. Tiro is also a very sympathetic and intelligent person that actually invented shorthand writing (stenography) and by that made himself both irreplaceable and immortal. He eventually became the right hand man for Cicero and was always by his side.
What I admire about Cicero the most is his strive for power without a hint of corruption. He definitely wants to better his own status but also cares for the people and it takes a lot to turn your back on bribes and more power, but he does. He has his principles and he stands by them. He only playes the game when someone forces him, otherwise he tries to move around it.
It's always easier to just let go and do what everyone else does, becuase power corrupts. I always admire people that stand for what they believe in! Cicero is also an underdog and I have a soft spot for those people. He doesn't have money or come from a rich family. He must fight for every single scrap when others can both buy and bribe their way to the same position as him several times over.
The plot is at times a bit tardy with long monologues and descripions of the environment, but they still bring something of value, so I don't mind, because the rest is so darn suspenseful. As soon as I finished this book I immediately began with the second one, because I couldn't let go of Tiro or Cicero!

The Unspoken Name

Handling: Csorwe har växt upp hos en dödskult och på sin 14:e födelsedag ska hon klättra upp för ett berg, till "the Unspokens One", en dödsgud och offra sig till den. När dagen väl kommer gör sig Csorwe redo och beger sig upp på berget. Men väl där får hon ett erbjudande av en magiker - stanna och dö eller lämna platsen med honom och få ett nytt liv. Csorwe väljer att fly från sitt öde för att bli magikerns tjuv, spion och lönnmördare. Tillsammans kan de nå oanade höjder. Men gudar glömmer inte, något som Csorwe snart upptäcker. Vänner blir till fiender och alla skulder måste till slut betalas in...

Min åsikt om boken: Den här boken påminner en del om Gideon the Ninth, men utan alla svåra och konstiga ord. Båda böckerna innehåller olika sorters hus med olika typer av gudar och/eller magi, rymdskepp, karaktärer som är queer och liknande. Dock är denna lite mer åt fantasyhållet jämfört med Gideon. Här finns orcer, alver (som jag tolkar det som), den traditionella typen av magi m.m. Jag tyckte först att The Unspoken Name var väldigt spännande och det gick snabbt att läsa. Det var väl en bit mot slutet som det började sega ner lite. När Csorwe ska rädda en person (avslöjar inte vem) tar det lång tid innan hon kommer till den punkten, innan dess håller hon på att vela en bra stund, vilket var segt. Sen när hon väl ska ut och rädda personen går det väl sådär och hon får ännu en gång komma på en plan för att rädda personen, en andra gång. Så det var liksom lite upprepande och segt i slutet. Ett onödigt krångligt slut kände jag. Sedan funderar jag över karaktären Talasseres, vad var hans syfte? Förutom att vara väldigt irriterande. Var han bara där för att få in en rapp dialog? Han tillförde inte så mycket annat än spydigheter, vilket kan vara kul så länge det inte är det enda syftet, för då känns det meningslöst.
Så runt 2/3 av boken var riktigt bra, även om vissa saker var lite outtalat. Det sägs inte rakt ut t.ex. att Csorwe är en orch, men det hintas om det i och med betarna och jag förstod inte riktigt hur "maze"-portarna funkade. Ibland flöt skeppen runt som om de vore i rymden, men samtidigt kunde de andas som vanligt och de fanns miljöer utanför skeppen. Så det var lite otydligt hur det funkade. Åkte de in i en labyrint från en port till en annan eller hur funkade det?
Överlag var boken helt ok och jag tyckte den var bra, men jag hade velat ha lite mer tydlighet kring hur saker och ting fungerade.

Story: Csorwe grew up in a death cult and on her 14th birthday she is to climb a mountain, to "The Unspoken One", a death god and sacrifice herself to it. When the day comes Csorwe gets ready and heads up the mountain. But when she gets there a magician gives her a coice - stay and die or leave the place with him and get a new life. Csorwe chooses to run from her fate to become the magician's thief, spy and assassin. Together they can conquer empires. But gods never forget, something Csorwe soon realises. Friends turn to traitors and all debts must be payed in the end...

My opinion about the book: This book reminds me of Gideon the Ninth to some extent, but without all the big and weird words. Bith books contain different kinds of houses with different gods and/or magic, space ships, queer characters and so on. This book is more towards fantasy compared to Gideon. There are orchs, elves (as I interpreted them as), the traditional kind of magic and so on. I first thought The Unspoken Name was very suspenseful and easily read. I guess it was a bit towards the end that it got a bit slow. When Csorwe was going to save someone (wont say who) it took a long while before she came to that conclusion. Before then she was very indecisive, which slowed the plot down a lot. Then, when she's finally out to rescue the person it doesn't go well and she must once again come up with a plan to save the person, a second time. So it became repetitive and slow in the end. An unnecessarily cumbersome ending according to me. I also was a bit contemplative about the character Talasseres, what was his purpose? Besides being annoying. Was he just there for the sharp-tongued dialogue? He didn't bring much to the story other than sarcasm, which can be fun as long as that's not the only purpose, because that makes it feel pointless.
So around 2/3 of the book was really good, even if certain things were unspoken. It's not said that Csorwe is an orch, but it's hinted because of her tusks and I didn't quite grasp how the "maze gates" worked. Sometimes the ships were floating like in space, but they could breathe as usual and there were normal environments outside the ships. So a bit unclear how that worked. Did they go into a labyrinth from one gate to another or how did it work?
Overall the book was alright and I thought it was good but I would have wanted more clarification about how things worked.

När maken hamnade på akuten förra veckan (på grund av njursten) så passade jag på att köpa hem lite böcker. Maken gillar att läsa manga så ville ge honom en liten överraskning efter pärsen på akuten och då kunde jag inte motstå att köpa böcker till mig själv, haha.
Mangan såg jag faktiskt på Bokugglors instagram (kan fortfarande inte läsa din blogg! 😩) så blev nyfiken och köpte hem den. Maken hade tydligen sett den tidigare och var själv lite nyfiken på vad den handlade om, så det var ju ett bra köp!

Isabellae handlar om Isabellae Ashiwara som är en ung tjej och dotter till en irländsk häxa och en samuraimästare i feudala Japan. Hon far omkring på landsbygden med sin pappas spöke vid sin sida och tjänar sitt levebröd genom sitt svärd och hon letar efter sin försvunna syster Siuko. Mot alla odds måste Isabellae ta makten över sitt öde en gång för alla och våga ta itu med sitt förflutna.

Spin the Dawn handlar om Maia Tamarin som drömmer om att bli den bästa skräddaren i riket och när en kunglig budbärare kallar hennes pappa till hovet ser hon sin chans. Hennes pappa var en gång en vida känd skräddare men är nu för svag att resa så Maia låtsas vara hans son och åker i hans ställe för att delta i en tävling med 11 andra skräddare, för att bli den nya hovskräddaren. Hon vet att hennes liv är förverkat om någon kommer på henne, en kvinna har inte rätt att tävla men hon är villig att ta risken för att förbättra sitt och sin familjs liv.
Tävlingen är hård och hennes uppgifter kompliceras av hovmagikern Edan, som verkar kunna se rakt igenom hennes förklädnad. Men inget kan förbereda henne för den sista uppgiften; att sy tre magiska klänningar som kommer ta henne på en resa långt ut i utkanterna av riket, sökande efter solen, månen och stjärnorna och hon hittar mer än hon nånsin kunnat ana.

Unravel the Dusk är fortästtningen på boken ovan och jag vill inte riktigt skriva vad den handlar om, för då avslöjar man ju redan vad som händer i första boken. Så den får man gott vänta på!

Hunter X Hunter är en manga om Gon so är en vanlig grabb från landet med höga ambitioner. Han vill bli en "hunter" precis som sin pappa, trots hans fasters/mosters protester. Han ger sig ut på havet tillsammans med 2 andra sökande som inte heller verkar påverkas av sjösjuka.
Efter att ha överlevt terrorn på havet måste Gon och hans vänner bevisa sitt värde i olika tester för att hitta det mystiska "Exam Hall". Och när/om de väl hittar dit, kommer de då lämna platsen vid liv?
Hunters är speciella typer som spårar skatter, magiska bestar och även andra människor. Men det krävs en licens för det och färre än 1 på 100 000 klarar de höga examinationskraven. De som klarar det får tillgång till förbjudna områden, otrolig information och rätten att kalla sig för Hunter.

 

When Le Husband ended up in the ER last week (because of a kidney stone) I took the opportunity to buy some books. Le Husband really likes manga so I wanted to give him a small surprise after the experience at the ER and I couldn't hold back from buying books for myself, haha.
I saw the manga over at Bokugglors instagram (I still can't read your blog! 😩) so I was curious about it and bought it. Le Husband has apparently seen it before and was a bit curious himself, so a good purchase!

Isabellae is about Isabellae Ashiwara, the fiercely independent daughter of a Celtic witch and a samurai master, roams the countryside with her father's ghost at her side, earning her living by her sword in the midst of feudal Japan, while searching for her long-lost sister, Siuko. Acquiring a misfit crew along the way, Isabellae battles against evil both worldly and supernatural, inching ever closer to discovering the truth of her haunted past and embracing her destiny.

Spin the Dawn is about Maia Tamarin, who dreams of becoming the greatest tailor in the land - but as a girl, the best she can hope for is to marry well. Unravel the Dusk is the sequel to the book above and I don't want to reveal what it's about, because that would give away too much of what happens in the first book. So you'll have to wait!

Handling: Morrigan Crow och hennes vänner är nu på sitt andra år inom Wundrous Society och det är först nu de får veta mer om vad deras jobb i framtiden kommer att bestå av. Morrigan försöker få reda på när och hur hon ska få träna sig sina Wundersmith-krafter, men det verkar som att alla lärare undviker henne. Plötsligt sprider sig en konstig smitta bland Wundjuren i Nevermoor och gör dem till odjur. De verkar blir helt tomma i blicken och vill skada människor. Ingen verkar veta hur smittan sprids eller varför det bara är Wundjur som smittas, men Morrigan har bestämt sig för att komma på en lösning.

Min åsikt om boken: Jag älskar de här böckerna och den här boken var precis lika bra som de föregående 2! Den här gången är boken dock relativt lång jämfört med de tidigare, men det gjorde ingenting. Då får det ju plats mer mer info. Det är ganska många spår samtidigt, speciellt när Morrigan och hennes vänner får veta mer om Wundrous Society (vad de sysslar med egentligen), smittan bland Wundjuren och Morrigans krafter. Men allt är liksom kopplat till varandra så i slutet knyts allt ihop på ett bra sätt. Jag misstänkte att detta knappast kunde vara slutet och efter lite googling verkar det som att det kommer 3 böcker till! Sammanlagt ska det bli 6 böcker i den här serien. Ser fram emot det! Jag såg också att man har sålt filmrättigheterna till första boken till Fox, vilket jag inte hade en aning om men lät ju kul. Hoppas bara de följer boken ordentligt, så det inte blir ännu en kass film av en riktigt bra bok.
Hur som, boken var riktigt bra. Den flöt på hela tiden och höll ett jämnt tempo. All drama, spänning och liknande var precis sådär lagom. Jag har inte så mycket mer att säga egentligen, det var en härlig upplevelse helt enkelt!

Story: Morrigan Crow and her friends are now on their second year at the Wundrous Society and it's not until now that they find out more about what their job might be in the future. Morrigan is trying to find out when and how she'll be taught to use her Wundersmith powers but it seems like the teachers are avoiding her. All of a sudden a mysterious contagion is spreading to the Wunimals in Nevermoor and makes them into unnimals. They seem empty and want to hurt people. No one seem to know how the disease is spread or why only Wunimals are infected, but Morrigan is determined to find a solution.

My opinion about the book: I love these books and this one was just as good as the previous 2! This time the book is pretty thick compared to the other ones, but it didn't make any difference. Just more room for information. There are a couple of side tracks going at the same time, especially when Morrigan and her friends find out more about the Wundrous Society (what they really do), the plague among the Wunimals and Morrigan's powers. But it's all connected to each other so in the end it all comes together in a good way. I suspected that this couldn't be the end and after googling I found out that there are 3 more books coming! So a total of 6 books in this series. I look forward to it! I also saw that they've given the movie rights for the first movie to Fox, which I had no idea about but sounds like fun! I just hope they stick to the book so it wont be yet another bad movie of a really good book.
Anyway, the book was great. It held a good pace and flow all the way through. All the drama, suspense and so on was on a good lever. I don't have a lot to say really, it was a really nice experience!

Alla lästa böcker i juni/All the books I read in June.

I juni läste jag totalt 6 böcker och 1 serietidning. Och som vi har lärt oss vid det här laget, så är ungefär 6 böcker/månad standard för min del. Jag har ju märkt att jag läser mindre på somrarna. Jag antar att det är för att jag är mer ledig och har ork/tid till att göra saker, vilket jag annars sällan har. Sen brukar man ju resa lite och åka på utflykter. Så vi får väl se om det blir så mycket läst i sommar.
Min första semestervecka är vecka 29 och då ska jag till Stockholm med Moder Jord. Vi ska gå på museum och bo i Gamla stan. Det ska bli mysigt! Vi hade sån tur att precis när vi är där har de en vikingautställning på nåt museum (tror det var Historiska) och det är ju en av mina nördgrejer, så det ser jag fram emot. Håller bara tummarna att min mage inte ska strejka... Men i värsta fall får jag väl leva på flytande föda ett par dagar innan (magen blir som ny då). Jaja, där fick ni lite extra info utöver vilka böcker jag har läst, haha.
De bästa i högen var förresten "A Thousand ships" och "The Witcher".

Vad ska ni hitta på i sommar? Läser ni mer eller mindre på semestern?

In June I read a total of 6 books and 1 comic books. And as we've seen up until now, it's pretty much standard for me to read 6 books/month. I've noticed that I read less during summer. I guess it's because I have more time off and have the energy/time to do stuff, which I rarely have otherwise. Summer is also when you travel and do stuff, so we'll see if I get anything read at all.
My first week of vacation is week 29 and I'm going Stockholm with my mother. We're going to museums and will stay in the old town. Will be nice! We are also lucky that there's a viking exhibit when we're there (I think it was at Historiska) and that's one of my nerd things, so I really look forward to it. I just hope my stomach won't give me any trouble... In worst case scenario I'll have to go on a liquid diet a few days before (my stomach gets better after that). Oh well, you got some extra info beside the books I've read, haha.
The best ones in the pile was "A Thousands ships" and "The Witcher".

Handling: Alice och Hatcher har kämpat för sin frihet och nu har det nått ganska långt ut i vildmarken. De är på jakt efter en specifik plats där de kan slå sig ner och leva resten av sina liv i frihet. Men vägen dit är lång och på vägen möter de både monster och fanatiker.

Min åsikt om boken: Jag gillade verkligen de två första böckerna ("Alice" och "Red Queen") så jag såg fram emot att läsa den tredje (och sista?) boken om Alice. Dock består den av fyra noveller som har en lös koppling till varandra och det funkar inte riktigt för mig. Det var svårt att förstå syftet med hela boken när varken kapitlen eller handlingen i sig inte hade någon större koppling till varandra eller de tidigare böckerna. Boken är dessutom bara uppdelade i 4 kapitel/noveller och stundtals är det segt. Man blir rätt omotiverad att läsa när det inte finns en röd tråd att följa. Det enda jag uppskattade var den första biten med Elizabeth. Men sen försvann hon helt och jag kände att resten var boken var ganska ologisk. Syftet med den är en gåta för min del. Jag hoppas inte att det här är hur det slutar för det vore verkligen antiklimatiskt. Samtidigt undrar jag om böckerna egentligen är en duologi? Men söker man på "The Chronicles of Alice" av Christina Henry så dyker även den här boken upp, så jag kan inte tolka det som nåt annat än den tredje boken i en trilogi. Men boken är så ologisk och malplacerad, så det blev väldigt förvirrande...

Story: Alice and Hatcher have fought for their freedom and have now reach the wilderness. They're on the hunt for a specific place where they can settle and live out the rest of their lives. But the road there is long and along the way they meet both monsters and fanatics.

My opinion about the book: I really liked the two first books ("Alice" and "Red Queen") so I looked forward to read the third (and last?) book about Alice. However, it contains four novellas with a lose connection to each other and it doesn't really work for me. It's hard to grasp the purpose with the book when neither the chapters or the story have any connection to each other or the previous books. The book is also divided into just these four chapters/novellas and at times it's really tardy. You get pretty unmotivated when reading something without a read thread to follow. The only thing I appreciated was the first bit with Elizabeth. But then she disappeared and I felt like the rest of the book was illogical. The purpose of it is a mystery to me. I hope this is not how it ends because that would be very anticlimatic. At the same time I'm wondering if the books were a duology? But when you search "The Chronicles of Alice" by Christina Henry, this book pops up so I can't really interpret it as anything other than the third book in a triology. But the book is so illogical and out of place that it gets confusing...

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue

I 300 år har Addie vandrat på jorden utan att bli sedd och ihågkommen. Hon gör allt hon kan för att lämna spår efter sig, men hon kan inte skapa något. Däremot kan hon inspirera och påverka andra.
Plötsligt möter hon Henry i en bokhandel och till skillnad från alla andra minns han henne. Det är början på en spirande kärlekshistoria. Men alla val har konsekvenser...

Min åsikt om boken: Den här boken har ju varit rätt hypad på instagram så jag blev definitivt nyfiken. Jag gillade "The Near Witch" av samma författare väldigt mycket men har tyvärr inte hittat någon bok som matchat den sedan dess. Jag hoppades väl att den här boken skulle göra det, men tyvärr inte. Det här var bokversionen av "slow cooking" i princip. Den är så långsam och seg. Det kändes ibland som en guidebok till New York och jag förstod inte det djupare syftet med boken. Varför ville författaren berätta den här historien? Handlingen var inte speciellt romantisk eller spännande utan kändes mest som en lunkande häst. Jag hade hellre fått följa med Addie genom åren (istället för korta små tillbakablickar) än hennes tid med Henry. Den enda gången jag upplevde någon spänning eller att karaktärerna verkligen kom till liv var när Addie träffade Luc. Annars kändes allt ganska platt. Så jag kan tyvärr inte riktigt förstå allt beröm boken har fått. Handlingen kunde definitivt ha varit minst 100 sidor kortare och det var kanske de sista 50 sidorna som jag kände att det verkligen hände nånting. Den var helt ok att läsa men inte så mycket mer än så.

When the time has come for Addie to get married she panics and makes a deal with the darkness.

For 300 years Addie has walked the earth without beeing seen or remembered. She does whatever she can to leave a mark, but she can't create anything. What she can do, however, is to inspire and influence others.
One day she meets Henry in a bookshop and unlike others he remembers her. That's the beginning of a budding love story. But all choices has consequences...


My opinion about the book: This book as been pretty hyped up on instagram so I got curious. I liked "The Near Witch" by the same author very much but have not found a book that could match it since then. I was hoping this book could do that, but unfortunately not. This was the book version of "slow cooking" pretty much. It's very slow and tardy. It sometimes felt like a guide book to New York and I didn't get the deeper puropse of the book. Why did the author want to tell us this story?
The plot wasn't expecially romantic or suspenseful. It felt like a strolling horse. I would have rather been there with Addie through all the years (instead of the short flashbacks) rather than her time with Henry. The only time I felt any tension or like the characters really came to life were when Addie met Luc. Besides those times everything felt very flat. So I can't understand all the praise the book got. The book could have been atleast 100 pages shorter and it was maybe the last 50 pages where I felt like something actually happened. It was alright to read but not much more than that.
