Handling: Piranesi lever i Huset med tusen hallar, tidvatten, moln, fiskar och fåglar. För honom är det Världen. I sina anteckningsböcker skriver han upp vad han gör på dagarna och två gånger i veckan träffar han "The Other". Ibland går han till de döda med mat och blommor. Dagarna är sig lika men plötsligt börjar mystiska meddelanden dyka upp, skrivna med krita. Det är någon ny i Huset men vem? Är det någon att lita på eller någon som vill en illa, som "The Other" påstår?
Försvunna anteckningar måste hittas och hemligheter måste avslöjas. Världen som Piranesi trodde sig känna verkar plötsligt väldigt udda och farlig.

Min åsikt om boken: Den första delen av boken är väldigt förvirrande, i alla fall för mig. Jag hade svårt att få grepp på alla hallar och statyer, så förstod inte mycket i början. Det tog en stund innan jag förstod vad som pågick men ju fler pusselbitar man fick, desto mer logisk blev handlingen. Det gick från total förvirring till flera "aha!"-upplevelser. Jag störde mig lite på hur Piranesi skrev, för det var stora bokstäver mitt i meningar och jag förstod inte riktigt syftet med det. Men efter ett tag vande jag mig. Huset i sig verkar väldigt häftigt och intressant, för den är så udda. Det är en ganska originell bok och jag undrade flera gånger hur författaren ens kom på idén. Jag tyckte Piranesi var en väldigt fin karaktär med bra kvalitéer. Han var lugn, respektfull och godhjärtad men samtidigt naiv och ganska "låst" i sitt tänkande. Jag gillade dock att han var ganska vetenskapligt lagd. Han gillar att studera saker och se mönster. Det är nåt jag kan känna igen mig i.

Överlag tyckte jag att handlingen var spännande, speciellt när man kommit in i handlingen en del och börjat få de första ledtrådarna. Men slutet tyckte jag var ganska antiklimatiskt. Det kändes för lågmält för boken, lite som att det rann ut i sanden på nåt sätt. Jag kände mig lite snuvad. Men å andra sidan är detta en ganska annorlunda bok, så man kanske inte ska förvänta sig nånting egentligen.

Story: Piranesi lives in the House with a thousand halls, tides, clouds, fish and birds. To him it is the World. In his notebooks he's written about that he does during the day and two times a week he meets up with "The Other". Sometimes he brings food and flowers to the dead. The days are alike but suddenly strange messages appears, written in chalk. There's someone new in the house but who? Is it someone to trust or someone malicious, like "The Other" says?
Lost notes must be found and secrets revealed. The World that Piranesi thought he knew now seem so strange and dangerous.

My opinion about the book: The first part of the book was very confusing, for me at least. I had a hard time getting a grip on all the halls and statues, so didn't understand a lot in the beginning. It took me a while to understand what was happening but the more puzzle pieces you got, the more it all made sense. It went from total confusion to several "aha!" moments. I was a bit annoyed with the way Piranesi wrote, with capital letters in the middle of sentences, because I didn't see the purpose of it. But after a while I got used to it. The house seem really cool and interesting because it's so weird. This is a pretty original book and I wondered several times where the author got the idea from. I thought Piranesi was a nice character with good qualities. He was calm, respectful and had a good heart but at the same time a bit naïve and "stuck" in his thinking. I did like that he was very scientific. He liked to study things and look at patterns. I can relate to that.

Over all I think the book was suspenseful, especially after reading a while until the clues starts coming. But I found the end to be a bit anticlimatic. It felt too low-key for this book, like it just slowly ebbed away. But on the other hand it's a pretty strange book, so maybe you shouldn't expect anything really.

Nytt i hyllan/News on the shelf

Häromdagen insåg jag att jag behövde brevpapper och eftersom det inte finns brevpapper överallt (som inte är till barn) blev det ju att åka till Scifibokhandeln. Där har de importerade paket med brevpapper från Japan så brukar köra på det. Hur som, det gick ju inte att besöka butiken utan att kolla efter böcker!

Witches steeped in gold handlar om Iraya som tillhör en avsatt magisk dynasti och är försatt i exil. Hon har vuxit upp i en cell i önationen Aiyea. Men hon bidar sin tid för både frihet och hämnd.
Jazmyne är uppväxt klädd i guld med stulen magi i sina händer. Hon är dotter till den självutnämnda doyenne och hennes existens är ett hot mot hennes mammas styre. Men Jazmyne har inga intentioner att dö.
Svurna fiender ingår i en dödlig allians för att besegra kvinnans som hotar båda deras världar. Men hämnd är en blodig sysselsättning och inget är säkert, förutom hur långt både Iraya och Jazmyne kan tänka sig att gå för att vinna spelet.

Jane Eyre handlar om Jane som haft en jobbig uppväxt, där båda föräldrarna dog när hon var ung och hon tvingas bo hos sin morbror och hans elaka fru. Jane blir senare utkastad ur huset, där hon i princip levt som tjänare och tvingas gå i en skola för fattiga. Skolan drivs av en snål herreman som nästan svälter flickorna. Men det hela uppdagas en vacker dag och livet blir lite bättre. Jane blir en lärare men känner att hon inte kan stanna kvar. Istället tar hon jobb som guvernant och träffar Mr Rochester, som hon blir förälskad i och det är början på en omtumlande resa.

Piranesi handlar om Piranesi som bor i Huset, vilket han kanske alltid har gjort. Ibland får han besök av sin vän The Other men för det mesta är han ensam. Varje dag skriver han ner alla under som sker; labyrinten av hallar, tusen och åter tusen statyer, tidvatten som dånar upp för trapporna, molnen som sakta flyter runt i de övre hallarna. Men plötsligt börjar meddelande dyka upp lite varstans, det är någon ny i Huset. Men är det en vän eller fiende? Den värld Piranesi trodde att han kände har nu plötsligt blivit både farlig och underlig.

The other day I needed letter paper and since it can't be bought everywhere (unless for children) I had to go to the Scifi bookstore. They have imported packs of letter papers from Japan so I usually go with that. Anyway, I couldn't visit the store without looking for books!

Witches steeped in gold is about Iraya who belongs to an overthrown magical dynasty and is in exil. She has spent her life in a cell on the island nation of Aiyea. But every day brings her closer to freedom  and vengeance.
Jazmyne grew up dressed in gold with stolen magic at her fingertips. She's the daughter of the self-crowned doyenne and her existence is a threat to her mother's rule. But Jazmyne she no intention of dying.
Sworn enemies enter a precarious alliance to take down a mutual threat. But revenge is a bloody pursuit, and nothing is certain - except the lengths they will go to win this game.

Jane Eyre is about Jane who's had a tough upbringing. Both her parents died when she was young and she had to live with her uncle and his mean wife. Jane is later thrown out of the house, where she pretty much lived as a servant and is forced to attend a school for the poor. The school is run by a cheap nobleman who almost starve the girls to death. But his wrongdoings is soon discovered and life gets a little better. Jane becomes a teacher but feels that she can't stay at the school. Instead she becomes a governess and meets Mr Rochester, who she falls in love with and that is the start of a shattering journey.

Piranesi is about Piranesi who lives in The House, which he's always done. Sometimes he is visited by his friend The Other, but most of the time he's alone. Each day he records the wonder that happens; the labyrinth of halls, thousands upon thousands of statues, tides that thunder up the stairs, clouds that drift in the upper halls. But all of a sudden messages begin to appear, there's someone new in The House. But is it a friend or foe? The world Piranesi thought he knew now seem both dangerous and strange.
