Handling: 18-åriga Gu Miyoung bär på en hemlighet, hon är en "gumiho" - en niosvansad räv som måste konsumera människor livsenergi varje fullmåne eller dö. Av rädsla för att bli mer ett monster än en människa konsumerar hon bara livsenergi när hon måste och då endast från män skyldiga till hemska brott.
När Miyoung hittar Jihoon, en stilig kille i hennes ålder, blir han attackerad av ett troll i skogen och hon räddar honom. Hon bryter sin mammas regler angående överlevnad. Men mitt i fighten förlorar hon sin rävpärla - sin gumihosjäl - vilket sätter igång en hel kedja av händelser och drar in både Jihoon och Miyoung i en fejd som spänner över generationer. Miyoung tvingas välja mellan sitt odödliga liv och Jihoons.

Min åsikt om boken: Boken är inspirerad av K-drama och koreansk folktro, två saker jag inte har så bra koll på, så jag kan inte säga så mycket om just det. Däremot tyckte jag att den var både intressant och kul att läsa! Den kändes lite annorlunda på nåt sätt, även om den bitvis innehåller typiska delar av tonårsdrama, men det hör väl till genren antar jag.
Både Miyoung och Jihoon har mycket gemensamt, utan att själva veta om det i början. Båda vet hur det känns att bli övergivna och försöka dölja vilka de är. Båda försöker göra så gott det kan och visar upp en fasad mot omgivningen som inte riktigt stämmer. Trots att de är så olika är de ändå ganska lika varandra! Jag tyckte det ändå var ganska snyggt gjort på ett underliggande sätt.
En bit före slutet blev handlingen lite seg och det kändes som att man försökte dra ut på det så långt det gick, vilket tyvärr drog ner lite på både tempot och spänningen. Men överlag tyckte jag boken var både kul, spännande och lättläst. Det gick snabbt att läsa den och stundtals var det svårt att lägga den ifrån sig.

When Miyoung finds Jihoon, a handsome human boy her age, being attacked by a goblin in the woods, she saves him, violating her mother's rules of survival and her own good judgement. But in the midst of the fight, Miyoung loses her fox bead - her gumiho sould - setting off a chain of events that ensnares both her and Ihoon in a deadly generations-old feud, which forces Miyoung to choose between her immortal life and Jihoon's.

My opinion about the book: The book is inspired by K-dramas and korean folklore, two things I don't know much about so I can't say much about that. But I do think the book was both interesting and fun to read! It fel a bit different in a way, even though there are bits of typical teenage dramas in it, but I guess it's falls within the genre.
Both Miyoung and Jihoon have a lot in common, without them knowing it in the beginning. Both know what it's like to be abandoned and hide who they are. Both try to do as well as they can and have a facade of being alright when really they're not. Despite being so different they're quite similar. I thought that was well done in a underlying way.
Shortly before the end the plot gets a bit slow and it felt like they were trying to drag it out as fas as possible, which slowed down the tempo and suspense, unfortunately. But over all I think the book was fun, exciting and easily read. It was a fast read and at times it was hard to put it down.

Hon försöker fly sitt förflutna men att byta stad verkar inte ha hjälpt, därför planerar hon att emigrera till Amerika. Men först måste hon jobba ihop de sista pengarna till biljetten och hjälpa fru Brask att baka karameller till en vinterbal på Mollberga gods.

Valdemar von Drever är baron och ägare av Mollberga gods. Han är änkling sedan länge och elaka tungor sprider rykten om både honom och hans tidigare äktenskap. Valdemar lever inte det lyxliv många tror, istället är han isolerad, vresig och bär på ett svårmod.

När Lovisa och Valdemars vägar korsas förändras allt, för dem båda. Men vågar de ta chansen? Kan de släppa de höga murar de har byggt upp runt sig?

Min åsikt om boken: Jag har sett väldigt många delade meningar om den här boken, så det var roligt att få läsa den själv och se var man ställer sig. Jag tycker boken rent generellt var bra och mysig. Karaktärer som Lovisa, fru Brask och Beata går alltid hem hos mig! Lovisa var rakryggad, ärlig men ändå ödmjuk. Fru Brask var en bestämd men snäll kvinna med ett sinne för både affärer och gottesaker medan Beata kändes som en fri själ, då hon klädde sig i manskläder, dansade på bord och var inte rädd för att ta plats. Riktigt härliga karaktärer!
Handlingen består egentligen av en salig blandning; både kärlek, historia och spöken. Lite otippat men jag tycker ändå det funkar. Jag vet att vissa ansåg att det kändes oseriöst och konstigt att även tillföra spöken, men jag tyckte att det funkade bra eftersom de hade ett ganska specifikt syfte. De flesta äldre byggnader har ju egna spökhistorier, så det kändes väldigt passande.
Sen kan jag hålla med om att just romantiken var lite outvecklad. När Lovisa och Valdemar kärar ner sig i varandra märks det inte så tydligt och det går väldigt fort, vilket inte kändes realistiskt. Jag har ju också svårt för veliga människor, påhittade eller ej, så ett tag blev det lite tjatigt med deras inre monologer; "Tycker han/hon om mig? Ja? Nej? Kanske?" osv, om och om igen.
Överlag gillar jag boken. Den var lagom lättsam och någorlunda trovärdig. Jag gillar den otippade vägen fram till slutet (som ändå var ganska förutsägbart) och karaktärernas utveckling.

Story: The young Lovisa Ling works for mrs Brask in her candy boutique in Ulltina in the year of 1870. Her life has been hard and memories har tormenting her. She's trying to flee her past put to change cities doesn't seem to have helped and therefore she's going to emigrate to Amerika. But first she has to save the last coins to pay for the ticket hand help mrs Brask to make candy for a winter ball at Mollberga estate.

Valdemar von Drever is a baron and the owner of Mollberga estate. He's been a widower for some time and mean tongues spread rumors about him and his previous marriage. Valdemar is not living the life of luxury as people think, instead he's isolated, grumpy and miserable.

When Lovisa and Valdemar's paths cross everything changes, for them both. But dare they take the chance? Can they let go of the high walls they've built around themselves?

My opinion about the book: I've seen many divided opinions about this book, so it was fun to get a chance to read it and see where I would stand. I think the book was pretty good and cosy in general. Characters like Lovisa, mrs Brask and Beata is always a jackpot in my eyes! Lovisa was upright, honest yet humble. Mrs Brask was determined but a kind woman with a sense for profit and candy, while Beata felt free spirited, because she dressed herself in men's clothing, danced on tables and wasn't afraid of taking up space. Really lovely characters!
The plot is a mixed bag of love, history and ghosts. A bit unexpected but I felt like it worked. I know that many thought it was weird and didn't felt realistic with the whole ghost aspect, but I thought it worked really good considering they had a specific purpose. Most older buildingsh ave their own ghost stories so I felt like it fitted in.
However, I do agree with the romance being a but undeveloped. It wasn't obvious when Lovisa and Valdemar fell in love and it also seems to have happened really fast, which didn't feel realistic. I also have a really hard time with indecisive people, real or not, so at times it became a bit repetitive with the characters' inner monologue; "Does he/she like me? Yes? No? Maybe?" and so on, over and over again.
Over all I like the book. It's easy going and fairly credible. I liked the unexpected road towards the end (that was pretty obvious) and the development of the characters.
I give it 4 out of 5💀

Handling: Rosie Strange ärver ett häxmuseum ute i Essex efter sin farfar, som hon knappt haft kontakt med och hon beger sig dit för att kolla in stället och se om det går att sälja. Hennes plan är verkligen inte att behålla museet och hålla det öppet. Rosie hinner dock knappt sätta sin fot på museet förrän hon dras in i en galen jakt på gamla, borttappade ben tillsammans med museets utställningskurator Sam Stone. Benen tillhörde Ursula Cadence, en ökänd häxa som hängdes på 1500-talet. Det är bråttom att få tag på benen, då en liten pojke verkar ha blivit besatt av ett spöke som levde på Ursulas tid och riskerar att dö.

Min åsikt om boken: Det här var en något udda bok med en salig blandning av spöken, besatthet, häxor, magi och detektivarbete. Den var lättläst och handlingen flöt på bra men jag tyckte inte att den var så himla spännande direkt. Ibland kändes den lite tjatig och som att man inte riktigt fick chansen att lära känna karaktärerna på djupet för det var så mycket annat som hände hela tiden. Det var som att handlingen skrapade lite på ytan samtidigt som den innehöll bitar från alla möjliga håll som alla skulle samsas om utrymmet. Jag hade nog velat ha lite mer ordning och struktur, en sak i taget. Detta är ju dock en serie upptäckte jag, så det är möjligt att de lösa ändarna knyts ihop i de kommande böckerna, men jag gillar inte lösa ändar. Det känns som att berättelsen kommer bitvis lite här och där, som att man får pussla ihop det efterhand, om man minns nåt men också som att bitarna kommer från olika håll, så man vet inte vad som är upp eller ner.
Boken var ok, som sagt. Inte en höjdare men inte heller dålig. I betyg får den 3.5 av 5💀

Story: Rosie Strange inherits a witch museum in Essex after her grandfather, that she hasn't hardly had any contact with and she goes there to check the place out and see if it's sellable. Her plan is not to hold on to it and keep it opened. Rosie scarcely has the time to put a foot in the museum before she's drawn into a crazy chase for some old, discarded bones together with the museum curator Sam Stone. The bones used to belong to Ursula Cadence, a infamous witch that was hanged in the 1500's. Time is short because a small boy seems to have become possessed by a spirit from Ursula's time and is at risk of dying.

My opinion about the book: This was a somewhat odd book to read because it had a mix of ghosts, possession, witches, magic and detective work. It was easily read and the plot went on smoothly, but I didn't find it particularly suspenseful. At time it felt repetitive and like you never got the chance to know the characters at depth because it was so much going on all the time. It was like the plot just scratched on the surface but at the same time it gave you bits and pieces of different things from every direction and everything had supposed to compress into the same space. I would have liked more order and structure, one thing at a time. I discovered that this is a series, so it's possible that the lose ends will be knitted together in the upcoming books, but I don't like lose ends. It felt like the story came in pieces here and there, like you had to piece them together afterwards, if you remember it but also that the pieces came from all over the place, so you didn't know what was up or down.
The book was alright. Not great but not bad either. I'd give it 3.5 of 5💀

Handling: I New York under 1890-talet bor Harriet, en medelålders kvinna utan man. Hon bor i ett finare område tillsammans med sin tjänarinna. Dagarna spenderas ute i naturen där hon samlar örter, växter och rötter till sina dekokter som hon gör till olika kunder. Harriet har nämligen magiska förmågor. Hon tillhör Bishopsläktet som har sina rötter i häxjaktens tid 200 år tidigare.

Frances har växt upp i fattigdom och när hennes mamma dör, har hon ingenstans att ta vägen. Men två kvinnor tar sig an henne och lär henne att använda hemliga förmågor. Frances tillhör nämligen också Bishopsläktet, men istället för att använda sig av magin för att göra gott snärjer hon en rik man. Mannen råkar också ha en dotter som kan få in Frances i de finare umgängeskretsarna.

Annis är en ung kvinna med en förkärlek till hästar. Hon bryr sig inte om varken kläder, mode, utseende eller andra "kvinnliga" saker. Hon vill börja avla på hästar, men det passar sig inte för en kvinna att syssla med. Ingen skulle köpa en häst av henne. När hennes styvmor hotar med att sälja hennes hästar om hon inte följer med till London sätts något ödesdigert igång. Min åsikt om boken: Detta är samma författare som skrev "A secret history of witches" och "A witch's kind", två böcker som jag har älskat från början till slut. Jag hade med andra ord ganska höga förväntningar på den här boken! Just den här boken var inte riktigt lika bra som de andra två, mest för att jag hade så svårt för Frances. Jag har i princip gillat nästan alla karaktärer i de andra böckerna, men just Frances gick mig på nerverna. Å andra sidan kanske det säger en del om författarens förmåga att gestalta olika karaktärer? Hur som, boken var fortfarande spännande och innehöll den där mystiken som har funnits i de andra böckerna. Jag gillade Harriet och Annis väldigt mycket, men ändå var det något litet som saknades. Jag vet inte exakt vad, men boken höll inte riktigt måttet (jämfört med de andra). Den var lite mer än ok, men inte mer än så.
Dock är det fint att läsa ännu en bok som handlar om systerskap och vänskap kvinnor emellan i en värld där det mesta är otillgängligt för dem på grund av deras kön.

Story: In New Yourk during the 1890's a woman lives without a husband. Her house is in one of the finer communities where she lives with her maid. Her days are spent in nature where she gathers herbs, plants and roots to make concoctions for her clients. Harriet has magical abilibies and is of the Bishop family, who har roots back in the day of witch hunting some 200 years ago.

Frances grew up in poverty and when her mother dies, she has nowhere to go. But two women takes her under their wings and teaches her their secret ways. Frances also belong to the Bishop family, but instead of using her abilities to do good she ensnare a rich man, who also happens to have a daughter that could give Frances entry to the finer social circles.

Annis is a young women with a fondness for horses. She doesn't care about clothes, fashion, looks or other "womanly" things. She wants to breed horses, but that wouldn't be appropriate for a woman to do. No one would buy a horse from her. When her stepmother threathens to sell her horses unless she travels with her to London something disastrous is triggered. Three women fights with their magical abilities for what they believe in and the consequences could be huge...

My opinion of the book: This is the same author that wrote "A secret history of witches" and "A witch's kind", two books I loved from the beginning to the end. With other words, I had high expectations on this book! This book in particular wasn't really as good as the other two, mostly because I just couldn't stand Frances. I have liked pretty much every character in the other books but Frances really a pain in the butt. On the other hand, that might say a lot about the author's ability to portray different kinds of characters? Any way, the book was suspenseful and had that air of mystery like the other books. I liked Harriet and Annis but the book just fell a bit short (compared to the other ones). It was a bit better than ok, but not much more.
I did however appreciate reading yet another book about sisterhood and friendship between women in a world where most things were unavailable to them because of their gender.

Handling: Jacob försöker rädda en ung tjej vid namn Noor ifrån olika grupper som vill få tag på henne, då man tror att hon är en del av en speciell profetia. Jacob begav sig ut på det här räddningsuppdraget utan att nämna det för sina vänner och nu försöker han komma på hur han ska kunna ta med Noor till en säker loop innan någon får tag på henne.
Samtidigt måste han hitta någon som kallas för "V", för det verkar vara den enda personen han och Noor kan lita på.

Samtidigt som detta händer pågår något ännu större, krig riskerar att bryta ut och när Jacobs gamla fiender rymmer förstår han att mycket står på spel. Tillsammans med sina speciella vänner hoppas han att han kan stoppa både kriget, sina fiender och lösningen på profetian innan det är för sent.


Min åsikt om boken: Jag älskade de tre första böckerna men tyckte att bok nummer 4 ("Map of Days") var rätt tråkig, så hade väl inte jättehöga förväntningar på del 5. Men den var faktiskt väldigt bra och spännande! I den här boken tyckte jag att kan kände igen allt som fanns i de tre första, men som jag saknade i 4:an. Som vanligt förhöjer de gamla svartvita bilderna hela berättelsen och det är en av anledningarna till att jag gillar den här serien, det känns lite extra kul och originellt. En mycket underhållande och fartfylld bok! Med tanke på hur den slutar är jag rätt säker på att det kommer en bok till, även om jag inte har kollat upp det. Men skulle bli väldigt förvånad om inte kom en 6:e bok!

Story: Jacob is trying to save a young girl namned Noor from different groups who wants to get their hands on her, because it is believed she's part of a prophecy. Jacob went on this rescue mission on his own without telling his friends and now he must figure out how to get Noor to a safe loop before they get her.
At the same time he must find someone namned "V", because that seems to be the only person he and Noor can trust.

Something even bigger is also going on, was is close to breaking out and when Jacob's old enemies escapes he realises a lot is at stake. Together with his friends he hope he'll be able to prevent the war, his enemies and figure out the solution to the prophecy beofre it's too late.


My opinion of the book: I loved the first three books but though book no 4 ("Map of Days") was pretty boring, so I didn't expect much from part 5. But it was actually really good and suspenseful! It contained the parts from the first three books that I thought was missing in the fourth book. As usual the old black and white pictures really enhanced the story and is one of the reasons I like this series, it just feels a bit extra fun and original. A very entertaining and pacey book. Considering the ending I'm pretty sure there will be another book, even though I haven't looked that up. But I would be very surprised if a sixth book didn't show up!

Handling: Barrie Anne Blythe blev föräldralös mycket tidigt och blev omhändertagande av sin konstnärliga moster Charlotte. Det är inte mycket Barrie Anne vet om sin moster, men samtidigt har hon varit för upptagen med sitt liv för att fråga. Något som hon däremot vet är att mostern kan få "föraningar" via vatten, vilket Barrie Anne inte riktigt förstår. Det hindrar henne dock inte från att tycka om Charlotte väldigt mycket.

När Barrie börjar på college träffar hon en kille som hon blir störtförälskad i men Charlotte är inte lika förtjust i honom. Men innan de vet ordet av det har andra världskriget startat och många män måste lämna sina familjer. Och detta är bara början på en lång rad problem som kommer att förfölja Barrie i flera år framöver.

Mitt allt kaos hittas ett underligt barn vid en kanal och Barries liv känns med ens bättre. Men var kommer barnet ifrån och varför kryllar det plötsligt av myndighetsmän i deras lantliga samhälle?


Min åsikt om boken: Det här är samma författare som till "A secret history of witches" som jag tyckte så mycket om (tips!) och inte blev jag besviken på den här boken heller. Författaren har en speciell berättarstil som verkligen faller mig i smaken samtidigt som handlingen är enkel, men ändå väldigt spännande. Det mesta utspelar sig i Barries barndomshem eller på hennes farm, men det gör inget för det sker saker hela tiden, från stort till smått. Jag tyckte det var mysigt att få följa med Barrie ut i trädgården när hon rensar bland grönsaker, plockar äpplen, pumpor m.m. och säljer på marknaden. Det känns som att jag är där med henne, jag kan nästan känna solen lysa på mig en kvav sommardag - så indragen i handlingen blev jag. Sen så är det inte fy skam heller att karaktärerna i boken är mestadels kvinnor, som är komplicerade. De är inte antingen starka eller svaga, utan komplexa och mångfacetterade, vilket känns befriande. En väldigt bra och spännande bok!

Story: Barrie Anne Blythe was orphaned at an early age and was taken care of by her artistic aunt Charlotte. There's not much Barrie Anne knows about her aunt, but at the same time she's too busy with her life to ask. Something she does know however is that her aunt gets "premonitions" through water, wich Barrie Anne doesn't really understand. It doesn't stop her from loving Charlotte a lot though.

When Barrie begins college she meets a guy and falls head over heels for him but Charlotte is not as fond of him as Barrie. But before they know it the second world war starts and many men have to leave their families and that's only the beginning of a long series of problems that will haunt Barrie for years to come.

In the middle of all the chaos a strange child is found by a canal and Barrie's life turns for the better. But where does the child come from and why is the rural village invaded by government men all of the sudden?

My opinion of the book: This is the same author that wrote "A secret history of witches" that I liked alot (tips!) and I wasn't disappointed by this book either. The author has a very special style of telling stories that really resonates with me and at the same time the plot is fairly simple yet so suspenseful. Most of it takes place in Barrie's childhood home or on her farm, but it doesn't matter because things happen all the time, big or small. I find it cosy to follow Barrie out into the garden when she's working with her vegetables, picking apples, pumpkins and so on, and sells at the market. It feels like I'm there with her, I can almost feel the sunshine on my a hot summer day - I'm that far into the story. It's also not a bad thing that the characters are mostly women that are complicated. They're not strong or weak, but complex and multifaceted, which feels freeing. A very good and tense book!

Handling: Greta Helsing är en helt vanlig människa, förutom att hon också är en s.k. "monsterdoktor". Hon hjälper diverse typer av varelser med olika problem dem har. Det kan vara allt från mumier som drabbats av svamp till vampyrer som druckit dåligt blod.
Den här gången får Greta ett erbjudande om att bli överläkare på Oasis Natrun, ett spa för mumier med de senaste medicinska och magiska maskinerna, under en tid, vilket hon inte kan tacka nej till. Men hon hinner knappt dit innan mystiska saker börja hända. Mumierna verkar drabbas av yrselattacker och varje attack verkar göra mumierna allt svagare.

Samtidigt verkar något större vara i görningen. Någon försöker medvetet göra revan i rumtiden större, men varför? Och hur kan Greta, tillsammans med sina vänner, lösa problemet?


Min åsikt om boken: Jag gillar den här bokserien, för vad mer kan man önska sig? Greta är en duktig doktor som genuint bryr sig om sina monsterpatienter, hon känner folk i Helvetet och råkar alltid ut för konstiga saker, vilket leder till äventyr. Sen att hon också har kärat ner sig i en vampyr gör ju inte saken värre, haha. Boken är stundtals romantisk men utan att vara sliskig, spännande, intressant och den håller ett bra flyt hela tiden. Jag upplevde den aldrig som tråkig eller seg. När även en gammal gud blandas in, tyckte jag att det hela blev ännu roligare. Ett smart inslag! En mycket bra och rolig bokserie.

Story: Greta Helsing is an ordinary human, except for being a "monster doctor". She helps different creatures with problems they might have, like mummies with fungus infections or vampires getting sick from drinking bad blood.
This time Greta is invited to become clinical director at Oasis Natrun, a spa for mummies with the latest medical and magical machines, for sometime, which she can't say no to. But she hardly has the time to land before mysterical things happens. The mummies seems to be affected by attacks of lightheadedness and each attack seems to make the mummies weaker.

At the same time it seems like something bigger is going on. Someone is deliberately trying to make the rip in time and space bigger, but why? And how can Greta, together with her friends, solve the problem?

My opinion of the book: I like this bookseries, because what more could you wish for? Greta is a great doctor who genuinly cares about her monster patients, she knows people in Hell and always end up getting involved in weird stuff what leads to adventures. That she's also in love with a vampire just makes it even better. The book is at times romantic, but without being cheesy, suspensful, interesting and it has a good flow. I never thought it was boring or slow. And when an old god was involved, everything just got even better. A fun elemt! A very good and funny bokseries for sure.

Handling: Magnus är en trollkarl och en så kallad "Downworlder" (i stil med vampyrer, féer, älvor och liknande). Han har precis börjat dejta Shadowhuntern Alec. Shadowhunters är ättlingar till änglarna och en sorts väktare, som skyddar jorden och människorna mot ondska och elaka typer. Att en Shadowhunter medvetet skulle beblanda sig med en "Downworlder" ses inte på med blida ögon och inte heller att ha en relation med någon av samma kön. Alec har alltid känt sig utanför och ensam, men med Magnus kan han känna sig trygg och är väldigt lycklig.

De är nu ute i Europa på semester efter ett stort slag och vill lära känna varandra bättre för att se vad relationen kan leda till. Men det dröjer inte länge förrän de blir indragna i en konspiration som hotar att dels förstöra deras relation och dels hota Magnus rykte och liv. En demondyrkande kult har dykt upp och begått hemska mord och det sägs att det är Magnus själv som är dess ledare, något han inte alls minns eller vet något om. Kulten måste stoppas innan allt går åt skogen!



Min åsikt om boken: Jag har aldrig läst en bok av Cassandra Clare innan men jag har sett lite av Shadowhunter-serien på Netflix (dock längesen) och tyckte att den var helt ok. Jag upplevde dock denna bok som något seg och tjatig. Det var ett jäkla flängande hit och dit, mycket upprepningar och istället för att använda pronomen så var det mycket upprepningar av namnen. Som t.ex. "Alec tyckte att Magnus verkade undvikande, men samtidigt kanske Alec misstog sig om Magnus beteende", en helt påhittad mening men så mycket upprepande av namn. Blev liksom irriterande till slut. Boken var dock bra när det blev action och hände nånting, för varelserna var intressanta och det var kul att få veta hur olika varelser såg ut samt vad de kunde göra. Men överlag var boken inte så jättebra. Den var rätt medelmåttig.

Dock tycker jag att det är helt suveränt med en bok som uteslutande handlar om två mäns kärlek till varandra, för hur ofta hittar man böcker som inte innehåller heterosexuella förhållanden? Rätt sällan faktiskt. Representation är viktigt och det är verkligen ett stort plus att författaren valt att skriva om just dessa två karaktärer. Tyvärr verkar det vara svårt att få ut böcker som innehåller icke heteroförhållanden, de liksom göms undan eller tas inte in på bibliotek och liknande (i alla fall USA), enligt författaren. Så ett stort plus i kanten för det, men tyvärr bar det inte riktigt upp handlingen.

Story: Magnus is a warlock and a so called "Downworlder" (along with vampires, fairies, sprites and such). He just began dating the shadowhunter Alec. Shadowhunters are descendents of angels and a kind of guardians, protecting the earth and humans against evil and nasty people. That a shadowhunter would deliberately mix themselves with a "Downworlder" is frowned upon and to have an actual relationship with someone of the same gender is not really accepted. Alec has always felt like an outsider and lonely, but with Magnus he feels safe and is happy.

They are out in Europe on vacation after a huge battle and wants to get to know each other better, to see what it all can lead to. But it doesn't take long until they're immersed in a conspiracy that threatens to not only destroy their relationship but also Magnus's reputation and life. A demon worshipping cult has appeared and is committing horrible murders and it is said that Magnus is its leader, something he doesn't remember or knows anything about. The cult must be stopped before it's too late!

My opinion of the book: I've never read a book by Cassandra Clare before but I've seen some of the Shadowhunter series on Netflix (long time ago though) and thought it was ok. I did however find this book to be a bit slow and repetitive. They went here and there, alot of repetitions and instead of using pronouns the caracther's names were used, so alot of repetitions of names. For example "Alec thought Magnus was avoiding Alec, but at the same time Alec could be mistaken about Magnus' behaviour", I made that sentence up but it was like this all the time, which was very annoying. The book was good though when there was some action and stuff happening, because the different creatures were interesting and it was fun to know more about the different kinds and what they could do. But overall the book was not great. It was pretty mediocre.

I do however think it's great with a book that was exclusively about the love between two men, because how often do you find books that doesn't contain heterosexual relationships? Rarely! Representation is important and it's a big plus that the author chose to write about just these two characters. Unforunately it seems to be hard to get books out if they're about non heterosexual relationships, they hare hidden away or not found in libraries (atleast in USA), according to the author. So a huge plus for that, but it didn't make the story better.

Handling: Martha är på rymmen. Efter hennes olycka, då hon förlorade synen på ena ögat, har inget varit sig likt. Hon vågar inte lämna sitt hem på grund av vad människor ska säga om hennes "nya" utseende och hon har också nyligen upptäckt att hon kan läsa av människor genom att röra vid deras kläder, något som har skrämt livet ur henne. Martha har skrivit brev efter brev till sin mormor som bor i Norge men inte fått något svar, så nu har hon bestämt sig för att åka dit.

När Martha kommer fram till mormors hus långt ute i ödemarken är någon hemma, men det är inte mormor... På nätterna verkar det också som att något väsen/monster är ute och härjar i skogen runt om stugan. Allt eftersom uppdagas den hemska sanningen och Martha har ett stort beslut att fatta. Ska hon axla rollen som Ödesgudinnorna har gett henne eller kommer hon att gå under?


Min åsikt om boken: Den här boken överraskade mig på många sätt. Baksidetexten säger inget om nordisk mytologi eller blodtörstande väsen som jagar folk och fä i skogarna, så när jag väl läste boken blev jag glatt överraskad! Jag blev också glad över att boken inte är sådär typiskt dålig B-skräckis utan mer åt det lite rysliga hållet. Man kan liksom känna hur skrämmande det är där ute i vildmarken när något ylar precis utanför dörren och springer runt på ens tak, utan att det blir överdrivet. Jag gillade också att boken hela tiden förde handlingen framåt och höll en jämn takt utan att det någonsin blev långtråkigt eller upprepande. Det kom nya saker hela tiden, men utan att för den delen bli förvirrande. En mycket bra och fin balansgång! Tyckte väldigt mycket om den här boken och kan verkligen tipsa er om den! Riktigt, riktigt bra faktiskt. Så läs den!

Story: Martha is on the run. After her accident, where she lost her sight in one eye, nothing's been the same. She doesn't dare to leave her home because of the fear of what other people might think about her "new! look and she has recently discovered that she can read people by touching their clothes, something that scares her alot. Martha has been writing letters to her grandmother, who lives in Norway, but without receiving any answers, so she decides to go there.

When Martha arrives at her grandmother's cabin far out on the wasteland someone's home, but it's not her grandmother... During the nights it seems like a creature/monster is out and about in the woods around the cabin. As time passes, the horrible truth is exposed and Martha has a big decision to make. Will she accept the roll the goddesses of fate has given her or will she perish?



My opinion of the book: This book suprised me in many ways. The summary doesn't mention anything about norse mythology or bloodthirsty creatures hunting people and animals in the woods, so when I read the book I was pleasently surprised! I was also glad that the book isn't typically B horror-ish. It's instead more towards being a bit creepy than frightening. You could almost feel the horror if being stuck in the wasteland with something howling outside your door and running around on your roof, without it being exaggerated. I also liked that the book kept the story going all the time in a consistent pace without it ever being boring or repetitive. The were new stuff all the time, but it never got confusing. A very nice and well thought through balancing act. I really liked this book and I recommend it to you! It was really, really good so read it!
