Av rädsla för att bli mer ett monster än en människa konsumerar hon bara livsenergi när hon måste och då endast från män skyldiga till hemska brott.
När Miyoung hittar Jihoon, en stilig kille i hennes ålder, blir han attackerad av ett troll i skogen och hon räddar honom. Hon bryter sin mammas regler angående överlevnad. Men mitt i fighten förlorar hon sin rävpärla - sin gumihosjäl - vilket sätter igång en hel kedja av händelser och drar in både Jihoon och Miyoung i en fejd som spänner över generationer. Miyoung tvingas välja mellan sitt odödliga liv och Jihoons.

Min åsikt om boken: Boken är inspirerad av K-drama och koreansk folktro, två saker jag inte har så bra koll på, så jag kan inte säga så mycket om just det. Däremot tyckte jag att den var både intressant och kul att läsa! Den kändes lite annorlunda på nåt sätt, även om den bitvis innehåller typiska delar av tonårsdrama, men det hör väl till genren antar jag.
Både Miyoung och Jihoon har mycket gemensamt, utan att själva veta om det i början. Båda vet hur det känns att bli övergivna och försöka dölja vilka de är. Båda försöker göra så gott det kan och visar upp en fasad mot omgivningen som inte riktigt stämmer. Trots att de är så olika är de ändå ganska lika varandra! Jag tyckte det ändå var ganska snyggt gjort på ett underliggande sätt.
En bit före slutet blev handlingen lite seg och det kändes som att man försökte dra ut på det så långt det gick, vilket tyvärr drog ner lite på både tempot och spänningen. Men överlag tyckte jag boken var både kul, spännande och lättläst. Det gick snabbt att läsa den och stundtals var det svårt att lägga den ifrån sig.

Story: 18 year old Gu Miyoung has a secret - she's a gumiho, a nine-tailed fox who must consume the life force of men every full moon or die. Ever fearful of becoming more of a monster, Miyoung kills only when she has to, and even then, only those guilty of horrific crimes.
When Miyoung finds Jihoon, a handsome human boy her age, being attacked by a goblin in the woods, she saves him, violating her mother's rules of survival and her own good judgement. But in the midst of the fight, Miyoung loses her fox bead - her gumiho sould - setting off a chain of events that ensnares both her and Ihoon in a deadly generations-old feud, which forces Miyoung to choose between her immortal life and Jihoon's.

My opinion about the book: The book is inspired by K-dramas and korean folklore, two things I don't know much about so I can't say much about that. But I do think the book was both interesting and fun to read! It fel a bit different in a way, even though there are bits of typical teenage dramas in it, but I guess it's falls within the genre.
Both Miyoung and Jihoon have a lot in common, without them knowing it in the beginning. Both know what it's like to be abandoned and hide who they are. Both try to do as well as they can and have a facade of being alright when really they're not. Despite being so different they're quite similar. I thought that was well done in a underlying way.
Shortly before the end the plot gets a bit slow and it felt like they were trying to drag it out as fas as possible, which slowed down the tempo and suspense, unfortunately. But over all I think the book was fun, exciting and easily read. It was a fast read and at times it was hard to put it down.

David Mogo Godhunter

Handling: David Mogo är en halvgud och bor tillsammans med en gammal, vresig trollkarl i Lagos, Nigeria. För ett antal år sedan hände något märkligt, gudar och godlings (midre och svagare typer av gudar/varelser) föll från himlen och invaderade landet. Davids "jobb" är i princip att fånga gudar och godlings mot betalning. En dag får han i uppdrag att fånga två tvillinggudar och föra dem till en av Lagos mest kraftfullaste trollkarlar. Det borde ju inte vara så svårt, eller hur?
Men inom kort får David en dålig känsla i magen och det är startskottet på ett förödande kaos...

Min åsikt om boken: Jag vill först börja med att säga att jag tycker det är viktigt att läsa böcker som kommer från andra länder än europeiska och från USA, men den här boken var inte alltid så lätt att förstå. Papa Udi (ibland Payu) talar nån sorts dialektal engelska (nigerisk engelska?) som är jättesvår att förstå. Vissa dialoger hängde jag inte med i alls och jag förstår inte varför författare envisas med att ha med dialoger som kräver speciella språkkunskaper? Det är ju dumt. Man kan inte räkna med att vem som helst kan läsa ens bok om man gör så och jag tycker inte heller att man ska behöva googla eller lära sig ett nytt språk för att kunna läsa en bok. Jag ska ta med ett exempel (sid 83) för att visa vad jag menar:
"And that kain talk, I no wan dey hear am for my ear," Papa Udi says. "But the boy - na small boy then, short like this, can raise shoulder, ehn? Anyway, he go dey pepper me with question. I go say, 'I no know, shey your Papa na practitioner, na Baálè? Go ask am.' But the boy go pepper me, then him go steal my things go dey mix for house." He clicks the back of his tongue in disgust. "No be with my name pessin go dey do that nonsense. I send am commot fast fast."
He trows in another heap of garlic, continues: "Me, I don see this kain thing before. I no wan hear say any repeat dey happen".
Jag fattar väl kanske 70% av vad som menas, men jag får ju gissa mig till det. Helt säker är jag definitivt inte och sånt här krånglar bara till det för läsaren. Jag tycker inte det ger karaktären mer personlighet eller liv, det blir bara drygt och jobbigt.

Utöver det ovan tyckte jag ändå boken var fascinerande, men lite förvirrande. Det är många okända ord som förekommer utan närmare förklaring så det är svårt att skapa sig en bild av handlingen. David Mogo är en sympatisk och härlig karaktär dock, jag gillade honom väldigt mycket. Han försöker göra det bästa för sig själv och Papa Udi samtidigt som han ändå bryr sig om andra. Det var svårt att se var handlingen skulle ta vägen, så blev definitivt överraskad ett par gånger. Man tror först att boken handlar om uppdraget att fånga de här tvillinggudarna, men snart inser man att nä, det finns mycket som pågår och kan utvecklas.

Överlag skulle jag säga att boken var helt ok. Dialogerna drog ner lite på upplevelsen men inte tillräckligt för att förstöra för en helt.

Story: David Mogo is a demigod and lives with and old, grumpy wizard in Lagos, Nigeria. A couple of years ago something strange happened, gods and godlings (lesser and weaker kind of gods/creatures) fell from heaven and invaded the country. David's "jobb" is to capture gods and godlings for money. One day he gets a mission to capture two twin gods and bring them to one of Lagos' most powerful wizards. It shouldn't be so hard, right?
But before long David gets a bad feeling and that is the beginning of a devastating chaos...

My opinion about the book: First, I want to say that I think it's important to read books from other countries than european ones and USA, but this book was not always easy to understand. Papa Udi (sometimes Payu) speaks some kind of dialectal english (nigerian english?) that is really hard to understand. I didn't understand some dialogues at all and I just dont understand why authors insists on having dialogues that requires special language skills? It's stupid. You can't count on that everyone can read your book if you do that and I don't think people should have to google or learn a new language just so read a book. Here's an example of what I mean (page 83):
"And that kain talk, I no wan dey hear am for my ear," Papa Udi says. "But the boy - na small boy then, short like this, can raise shoulder, ehn? Anyway, he go dey pepper me with question. I might have understood like 70% of what they meant but I still have to guess what it means. I'm not 100% sure of it and this just makes it more troublesome for the reader. I don't think it gives the character more personality or depth, it's just cumbersome.

Besides that I think the book was fascinating but a but confusing. There were many unknown words without any explanation so it was hard to get a grips of the plot. David Mogo is a very sympathetic and lovely character though, I really liked him. He tried to do what was best for himself and Papa Udi, but he also cared about other people. It was hard to expect where the plot was going, so there came a couple for surprises along the way. You first think the book is about the capture of these twin gods, but soon you realise that no, there's a lot going on that can be developed.

Over all I'd say this book was alright. The dialogues brought down the experience a little but not enough to ruin it all together.

Handling: Dalia vaknar upp i ett okänt hus efter en lång koma och inser att hon är tillbaka hos Aion. Hon är för svag för att göra något åt situationen så hennes plan är att bli friskare och starkare för att kunna återvända till Decagon. Ledaren för Aion, Rourke, har dock andra planer för Dalia. Hon har något han vill ha och han skyr inga medel för att få det, oavsett om hon kan fara illa av det eller inte...
Drömvärlden är avstängd för Dalia så hon kan inte kontakta Decagon den vägen, istället måste hon försöka hitta allierade bland sina fiender, men det är lättare sagt än gjort.

Min åsikt om boken: Jag fullkomligt älskade första boken "Decagon". Den var så olik något annat jag läst tidigare. Jag såg därför fram emot att läsa uppföljaren. Jag vet dock inte om jag kanske var på fel humör eller vad det var, men "Baphomet" kändes lite... mild i jämförelse med 1:an. Jag tyckte det var ett par upprepningar i första delen och tiden det tog för Dalia att bli bättre var lite seg. Men när tempot väl ökade på så var det en jäkla resa, men vägen dit kändes en aning för lång.
Jag älskade detaljerna kring Aions och Dalias förflutna, jag hade gärna läst mer om det! Ofantligt intressant och spännande. Sedan gillar jag också tidshoppen mellan dåtid och nutid. Det är ett smart sätt att berätta om en karaktärs förflutna utan att bara rada upp det.
Boken var helt klart läsvärd, men hade önskat lite mer tempo överlag. Ser dock fram emot den tredje och sista boken!

Story: Dalia wakes up in an unknown house after a lenghty coma and realises she's back with the Aion. She's too weak to do anything about the situation so her plan is to get healthy and strong enough to return to Decagon. The leader for Aion, Rourke, has other plans for Dalia though. She has something he wants and he doesn't shy away from doing what he must in order to get it, no matter what...
The Dreaming is closed off to Dalia so she can't contact Decagon that way, instead she must try to find allies among her enemies, which is easier said than done.

My opinion about the book: I really loved the first book "Decagon". It was unlike anything I've ever read before. Therefor I really looked forward to read the sequel. I don't know if I wasn't in the right mood or what it was, but "Baphomet" felt a bit... bland in comparison to the first book. There were some repetitive parts in the beginning and the time it took for Dalia to get better was a little too slow. But when the pace picked up speed it became a hell of a journey, but the way there was bit tardy.
I loved the details around Aion's and Dalia's past, I'd love to read more about that! Extremley interesting and suspenseful. I also liked the time jumps between the past and the present. It's a smart way of describing a character's past without just lining it upp.
The book is worth a read, I just wished it had a faster pace over all. I do really look forward to the third and las book!

Det är förbjudet att drälla runt på gatan, så man måste antingen vara i skolan, på jobbet eller hemma, annars kan man råka illa ut. Alla former av magi betyder döden så personer med magiska förmågor måste dölja dem så gott de kan.

I staden bor Gina, Caroline, Sophie och David. Av en ren slump blir de alla vänner och upptäcker snart att en av deras största fiender är ett magisk föremål på spåret. Om fienden får tag på det kan det vara slutet för dem alla.

Min åsikt om boken: Jag deltog i en "cover reveal" på instagram för ett tag sen och som tack fick jag boken av författaren, vilket jag så klart tackar för! 🙏
Boken var lättläst så det gick rätt fort att läsa ut den. Jag tyckte den var helt okej men saknade några detaljer som nog hade kunnat göra den riktigt bra. Själva idén är intressant och kul, men jag saknade ett djup. Karaktärerna kändes platta och världsbygget hade potential att bli fängslande men man fick inte mycket info. Vad hade hänt? När, hur och varför? Vad är egentligen "Omprom"? Det används i boken som något väldigt hemskt. Nåt man aldrig återvänder ifrån. Är det som en sorts omprogrammering eller ett ställe man blir avrättad på? Som jag nämnde tidigare tyckte jag att karaktärerna är lite platta. Jag fick ingen riktig kontakt med dem. Det var lite som att man blev tillsagd att "så här är det" men det var inget hos karaktärerna som riktigt visade det. Ett utvecklat djup med mer info hade definitivt kunnat höja berättelsen men boken är inte dålig för det. Det saknas bara några bitar enligt mig.

Title: I just translated it from swedish to english since it doesn't have an english title. "Fyr" could also mean "lighthouse" so I'm not 100% sure if it's supposed to be that or beacon.

Story: In a dysopian world lies the beacon city that is ruled by unmagical people. The population is surveilled by the order police and a curfew after a certain time of the day. It's forbidden to hang around outside, so you either must be at school, at work or at home if you don't want to get into trouble. All forms of magic means death so people with magical abilities must hide them as much as they can.

In the city lives Gina, Caroline, Sophie and David. By pure chance they all get to know each other and soon they discover that one of their biggest enemies are looking for a magical object. If the enemy get his hands on it it could mean the end of them all.

My opinion about the book: I participated in a "cover reveal" on instagram a while ago and got the book as a thank you for that, which I'm grateful for! 🙏
The book was easily read so I finished it rather quickly. I thought it was alright but missed some details that probably would have made it much better. The idea itself is interesting and fun, but I missed a depth to it all. The characters felt flat and the world building had potential to be captivating but there wasn't enough info. What had happened? When, how and why? What was "Omprom"? It was used in the book as something horrible. Something you'd never return from. Was it a sort of reprogramming or a place were people got executed? As I mentioned before I thought the characters were a bit flat. I never got a connection to them. It was like you were told that "it's like this" but nothing in the characters indicated that. A more developed depth would have lifted the story a bit but the book was not bad. It was just missing a few pieces according to me.

Handling: Dalia tillhör en grupp av odödliga som kallas för "the Others". De har levt i flera hundra år och försökt gömma sig för Aion, en grupp av andra odödliga som inte skyr varken tortyr eller mord. Dalia är något av en expert på att lokalisera andra odödliga som inte tillhör Aion i drömvärlden. Hon besöker andras drömmar och försöker rädda dem/få dem att ansluta sig till hennes grupp. Aion skickar ut så kallade "Chasers" som är specialtränade och väldigt dödliga. Gång på gång måste Dalia försvara både sig själv och den grupp av odödliga hon lever med från "Chasers" men hur länge kan de fortsätta så här innan de till slut hittas?

Dalia måste dessutom lokalisera en specifik person som hon har försökt få kontakt med i över 6 år, men av någon anledning är just hen väldigt svår att kommunicera med. Det börjar bli ont om tid och Dalia förstår att om Aion får tag på den här personen, kan det sluta riktigt illa. Men om hon lyckas kan de eventuellt få den hjälp de behöver för att komma åt Aion en gång för alla.



Min åsikt om boken: Den här boken är lite svår att förklara utan att avslöja en massa detaljer, därav den lite tråkiga beskrivningen ovan. Men boken är LÅNGT ifrån tråkig! Den är uppdelad i tre olika tidslinjer, vilket jag kan vara lite skeptisk mot i vanliga fall men jag tyckte det blev väldigt bra. Man får följa Dalia och gruppen hon lever med i nutid, sedan hur Dalia har hittat varje person i sin grupp och sedan delar ur Dalias tidigare liv. Det föll ihop väldigt bra på slutet. Jag tyckte det var både smart och lite kul hur författaren har delat upp de odödliga. "The Others" som Dalia lever med blev odödliga rent spontant medan Aion blev skapade av en eller flera redan odödliga. Jag gillade också det var en sån salig blandning av människor från olika länder och kulturer. Det känns mer inkluderande och normalt på nåt sätt. Det blir inte lika homogent då och tillför mer till både handlingen och läsupplevelsen. Jag hade svårt att sluta läsa boken så den var riktigt bra! Jag gillade dessutom att boken varvade mellan drömvärlden och verkligheten, det blev som en extra dimension till läsningen. Som sagt, en mycket speciell och bra bok! Måste helt klart läsa nästa del!

Story: Dalia belongs to a group of immortals called "the Others". They've lived several hundred years in hiding from Aion, another group of immortal that doesn't shy away from torture or murder. Dalia is somewhat of an expert in localizing other immortals that doesn't belong to Aion in the dream world. She visits other people's dreams and tries to save them/make them join her group. Aion is sending out "Chasers" that are specially trained and very lethal. Again and again Dalia must defend herself and the group of immortals she lives with from the "Chasers" but how long can they keep this going before they are found?

Dalia must also find a specific person that she has been trying to get in contact with for over 6 yrars but for some reason he/she is very hard to communicate with. Time is running out and Dalia understand that if Aion gets its hand on this person, it could end really bad. But if she succeeds they could eventually get the help they need to destroy Aion once and for all.


My opinion of the book: This book is a bit hard to describe without spoiling a lot of details, hence the little boring description above. But the book is FAR AWAY from boring! It's divided into three different timelines and I'm normally a bit sceptical towards that but here I felt it really made sense. You get to follow Dalia and the group she lives with in the presence, then how she's found each person in her group and finally parts of Dalia's earlier life. It all came together really well in the end. I also think it was both smart and a bit fun how the author seperated the immortals from each other. "The Others" that Dalia lives with just happened to become immortal naturally while Aion was created by one or several already immortals. I also liked the mix of people from different countries and cultures. It felt including but also normal somehow. It's not so homogeneous as it usually is and brings more to both the plot and the reading experience. I had a hard time of putting down the book so it was really good! I also liked the mix of dream world and reality, because it gave an extra dimension to the reading. As I said, a really special and awesome book! I really need to read the next part!
