Handling: Kell är en av de två sista i världen som har förmågan att resa mellan olika universum. Han kan resa till Grey London - som existerar utan magi och bebos av vanliga, dödliga människor, Red London - där magi är något man omfamnar och använder hela tiden samt även där Kell växte upp i den kungliga familjen, White London - som styrs av två tvillingar och människor måste slåss för att överleva samt Black London - som egentligen inte finns mer.
Kell levererar kungliga brev mellan de olika städerna och hans liv är rätt bra. För spänningens skull brukar han ibland smuggla smått krimskrams som han säljer till specifika människor, trots att det är olagligt. En dag får han tag på något som verkligen inte borde existera och måste fly för sitt liv. Under flykten råkar han stöta på Lila, en gatusmart tjej i Grey London som fått kämpa för sin överlevnad och som nu vägrar låta Kell resa vidare utan henne. Men kan en vanlig dödlig resa mellan världarna?

Min åsikt om boken: Jag har ju läst "The near witch" av samma författare som jag verkligen älskade. Språket och atmosfären i den boken var så härlig och mysig, så jag har letat upp fler böcker av henne och nu har jag läst ännu en bok. Denna var lite annorlunda. Det var väldigt mycket berättande(monologer)  och inte så mycket dialog, vilket kan bli lite långrandigt efter ett tag. Det blir liksom för mycket text sida upp och sida ner. Men när handlingen väl kommer igång och det börjar hända saker blir det bättre. Jag gillar både Kell och Lila som karaktärer och de olika versionerna av London är väldigt intressanta. Men jag kände nog att boken var sådär. Lite för mycket berättande, som sagt och inte riktigt den där härliga atmosfären som i första boken jag läste av Schwab. Jag kommer läsa bok nr 2 men jag har inte jättehöga förväntningar.

Story: Kell is one of the two last people that have the ability to travel between different universes. He can travel to Grey London - that exists without magic and is inhabited by ordinary mortal humans, Red London - where magic is revered and used all the time, but also where Kell grew up in the royal family, White London - that's ruled by two twins and people have to fight for survival and Black London - that doesn't really exist.

Kell is delivering royal letters between the different cities and his life is pretty good. Just for the kicks of it Kell is also smuggling small trinkets which he sells to specific people, even though it's illegal. One day he gets hold of something that really shouldn't exist and he must flee for his life. During his flight he happens to meet Lila, a street smart girl in Grey London that has had to fight for her survival and she refuses to let Kell leave without taking her with her. But can a mortal travel between the worlds?

My opinon of the book: I've read "The near witch" by the same author, which I really loved. The way it was written and the atmosphere was just so lovely and cosy, so I've been looking for more of her books and now I've read another one. This one is a bit different. There was a lot of monologues, which ends up being a bit boring after a while. It just gets a bit too much with text page up and page down. But when the story gets started and stuff begins happening, that's when it gets really good and interesting. I like both Kell and Lila as characters and the different versions of London was interesting, but I felt like the book was a bit so-so. Not great but not bad either, just average. Too many monologues and narration. The nice atmosphere of the first book I read by Schwab is also missing. I will read bok no 2 but I don't have high expectations.
