Handling: Geralt har fått ett barn att ta hand om efter slaget om Cintra och han tar henne till häxkarlarnas borg Kaer Morhen för att hålla henne säker, men också lära upp henne i häxkarlarnas alla konster. Samtidigt är det oroligt runt om i de olika rikerna. Människor, alver, dvärgar, gnomer och halvlingar har levt sida vid sida i århundraden men hotas nu av ett gäng rebeller och en invaderande makt. Geralt vill inte lägga sig, hans jobb är att döda monster mot pengar men det är inte säkert att han har nåt att säga emot det hela. Mörka krafter söker efter barnet han tar hand om, en del vill se henne död medan andra vill utnyttja hennes ställning. Vem kan man lita på och hur ska han kunna skydda barnet utan att bli indragen i världsliga problem?


Min åsikt om boken: Jag läste "The Last Wish" först, vilket är en fristående del om Geralt av Rivia och tyckte att den var helt ok. Lite seg emellanåt, men det var en relativt gammal utgåva. Kände inte igen det alls i den här boken, som är en nyare utgåva. Det där lite sega och tråkiga språket var inte alls där, utan boken var väldigt underhållande och intressant. Det var saker som hände hela tiden. Jag gillade ju tv-serien väldigt mycket så bestämde mig för att köpa hela bokserien och läsa mer. Det är intressant att tv-serien inte börjar där första boken börjar, utan lite innan (misstänker "The Last Wish" för det var väldigt mycket från den boken som jag kände igen). Nu har de ju gått ut med att säsong 2 ska handla mer om Geralt och hans bakgrund/"familj" (de andra häxkarlarna) och det är i princip vad den här boken handlar om, förutom hans "Överraskningsbarn", så jag tror serien kommer följa böckerna i den här ordningen. Men vi får se. Hur som, en mycket bra och underhållande bok! Jag gillar Geralt som karaktär men också världen och dess historia, med krig, monster, intriger och liknande. Väldigt bra!

Story: Geralt has a child to take care of after the battle of Cintra and he takes her to the Witchers lair Kaer Morhen to keep her safe but also to teach her the ways of the Witchers. At the same time there's unrest in the many kingdoms. Humans, elves, dwarves, gnomes and halflings have lived side by side for hundreds of years but are now threaten by a gang of rebells and an invading force. Geralt doesn't want to get involved, his job is to kill monsters for money but he might not have that much to say in the matter. Dark forces are looking for the child he's caring for, some wants to see her dead while others want to exploit her status. Who can you trust and how is he going to protect the child without getting involved in mundane problems?

My opinion of the book: I read "The Last Wish" first, which is a stand-alone part about Geralt of Rivia and I thought it was okey. A bit slow at time, but it was a pretty old edition. I didn't feel that at all in this book, which is a newer edition. That slot and a bit boring language weren't there at all. The book was very entertaining and intresting. Stuff happened all the time. I liked the tv-show very much so I decided to buy the whole book series and read more. It's interesting that the tv-show didn't where the first bok begins but a bit before (I suspect that they began with "The Last Wish" because there was a lot from that book that I recognized). They've said now that season 2 will be more about Geralt and his background/"family" (the other witchers) and that is pretty much what this book is about, except from his "Surprise child", so I think the series will do it in this order. But we'll see. Anyhow, a very entertaining and good book! I like Geralt as a character but also the world and its' history, with wars, monsters, intrigues and such. Very good!
