"The way Jeh and her descendants had dealt with both the Royal Beasts and the Toda had been cruel. To cement royal power, and to later gain crushing military strength, they'd used the creatures as convenient tools, warping the animals' bodies for their own ends without a thought for their health or well-being. They'd perverted the lives of these creatures to preserve the lives of their people."

Story: Elin is a beast doctor and takes care of the Royal Beasts but also the Toda, who are used in war. Her dream is for no animal to be in captivity to serve man or as war machines. According to the old legends the beast and todas can never go out into war at the same time because then something terrible will happens, but no one remembers why. So when a foreign land attacks with their own Toda army and threaten Elin's family, they might not have any other choice than to maybe challenge the legend. How bad can it really get?

My opinion about the book: This is the sequel to "Best player", which was awesome. Even though I read the first part many years ago I still remember to this day how amazing it was, so I really looked forward to read "The Beast Warrior". It was never supposed to be a sequel but some people asked for it and the author suddenly had an idea and wrote this book. I'm so greatful she did, because what a book! It was suspenseful from start to finish. You get to know a little more about the Toda and the Royal Beasts, which I thought was really interesting. You also get to know more about Elin's mother, what she was hiding and why. There are special people beyond a mountain that Elin and the queen derives from, that was there when the catastrophy happened and made people flee. All this you get to know more about and why it came to be.
Elin is fighting her conscience a long while regarding the animals and how they're used but at the same time she realises that she doesn't have much to say about it. She just has to make the best out of it. A very suspenseful and wonderful story with sympathetic and entertaining characters. I loved the book and want more! This is, however, the last book about Elin, but the author might write other books with new characters that might charm your pants off, haha.

I give it 5 of 5 💀
