Handling: 17-åriga Hero bor på ett barnhem i Amareth. Det är 20 år efter den blodiga revolutionen som slutade med att the Guardsmen slaktade de vuxna gudarna och i jakt på deras barn vaktar the Guardsmen barnhemmet som Hero bor på. När barnen fyller 18 år förs de iväg och testas. Genom ett enkelt snitt nånstans på kroppen (oftast armarna) kan the Guardsmen lätt se ifall personen är en gud eller inte; rött blod betyder människa och grått eller silvrigt blod betyder halvgud eller gud. De som inte är människor ses aldrig igen och ingen vet var de tar vägen.

Hero delar rum med två andra, människan Kastrel och guden Joshua. De kommer alla varandra nära och innan Joshua fyller 18 år bestämmer de sig för att rymma, men för att klara det måste de göra upp en vattentät plan. När dagen väl kommer sätts planen i rullning men det går inte riktigt som de hade tänkt sig. Alla lyckades inte rymma och nu måste de ta sig norrut till det mytomspunna tornet Elida för att befria sin vän. Men hur länge kan man undvika the Guardsmen och alla hatiska människor som inte skulle tveka att blåsa skallen av en gud om de fick chansen? Och hur ska de lyckas frita sin vän ur det svarta tornet som kryllar av fiender?


Min åsikt om boken: Den här boken är lite svår att förklara känner jag. Konceptet med handlingen är väldigt intressant men det var lite svårt att få någon koppling till karaktärerna. I början kändes lite för styltigt, i stil med faktaböcker. Det fanns liksom inget djup i varken karaktärerna eller handlingen. Men ju längre jag läste desto djupare fastnade jag i berättelsen, men den där kontakten dök aldrig upp. Handlingen kunde ha varit så mycket mer och jag önskar att man hade fått mer info om gudarna och livet innan revolutionen. Varför skedde den? Hur länge hade människor och gudar levt tillsammans? Var kom gudarna ifrån och varför gick de under, de var ju trots allt gudar? Det fanns alltså mer att önska av boken rent generellt, då handlingen inte kändes helt genomtänkt. Men jag kan inte säga att boken var dålig, fast inte heller jättebra. Ganska intetsägande med en intressant handling trots allt, även om det kanske låter motsägelsefullt. Helt ok med andra ord.

Story: 17 year old Hero lives in an orphanage in Amareth. It's 20 years after the bloody revolution that ended with the Guardsmen slaughtering the adult gods and in the hunt for their children the Guardsmen are guarding the orphanage Hero lives in. When the children turn 18 they are taken away to be tested. By a cut somewhere on their body (usually the arms) the Guardsmen can easily see if the person is a god or not; red blood means human and grey or silver blood means half god or god. Those that are not human are never seen again and no one knows what happens to them.

Hero shares room with two others, the human Kastrel and the god Joshua. They all get really close to each other and before Joshua turns 18 they decide to escape, but to do that they need a bulletproof plan. When the day comes the plan is in motion but it doesn't go exactly like they planned it. Everyone doesn't get out and now they must go north to the mysterious tower Elida to free their friend. But how long can you avoid the Guardsmen and all the hateful humans that wouldn't hesitate to blow the head off of a god if they got the chance? And how are they going to free their friend from the black tower that is crawling with enemies?


My opinion of the book: I feel like this books hard to explain. The concept of the plot is really interesting but it's hard to get any connection to the characters. It felt a bit stiff, like reading a non fiction book. There was no depth to the characters or the plot. But the more I read the deeper I got into the story, but that connection never came. The story could be so much more and I wish we got to know more about the gods and life before the revolution. Why did it happen? How long had humans and gods lived together? Where did the gods come from and why did they perish, they were after all gods? There's more to wish for by the book in general since the plot didn't feel thoroughly thought through (what a sentence! Haha). But I can't say the book was bad all the way through, but not great either. Pretty bland but with and interesting plot after all, even if that sounds contradictory. An ok book with other words.

Handling: Kellen är på jakt efter ett kloster vid namn Ebony Abbey. Det ryktas om att ett sådant kloster ska finnas, där alla drabbade av Shadowblack kan stanna och känna sig säkra från omvärldens förförljelse och hat. Men för att ta sig dit måste Kellen och hans ekorrkatt Richis bege sig ut i öknen, samtidigt som Kellen förföljs av sitt eget folks magiker, som inget annat vill än att ta död på honom - helt sanktionerat av hans egen far.

På vägen upptäcker Kellen en hel del om inte bara sig själv utan om Shadowblack, andra människor omkring honom och hur världen kan te sig. Han kanske inte kan ta till magi som de flesta andra eller charma människor med sitt utseende, men hans intellekt och listighet har räddat honom mer än en gång tidigare.

Nu hotas hela klostret och alla som bor där av Kellens pappa och hans jakt på att utplåna alla som har Shadowblack. Klostrets ledare verkar tyvärr inte vara bättre än Kellens pappa och är villig att offra mycket för det han tror på. Det blir upp till Kellen att rädda dem alla från att gå under.


Min åsikt om boken: Jag har älskat varenda bok i denna serie och nu ska jag försöka förklara varför, vilket inte är så himla lätt. Det finns få manliga författare vars böcker jag har läst och faktiskt tyckt om och detta är en av dem. Huvudkaraktären Kellen är liksom kass på allt. Han är inte snygg, stor och stark, charmig eller en bra magiker. Han kan ingenting egentligen. Han känns lite som en naiv nörd som inte riktigt vet nånting av värde. Men ut med resans gång har han otaliga gånger varit tvungen att både utmana sig själv och vad han är kapabel till. Han har fått lära sig vad riktig vänskap är och vad man är villig att göra för dem man tycker om. Han har också fått lära sig att istället för att använda magi får han använda sitt huvud och snabbt tänka ut olika planer för att ta sig ur diverse livshotande situationer. Den här serien låter kanske väldigt seriös, men den är full av sarkasm och lustigheter. Man kan inte annat än att gilla Kellen och hans oskuldsfullhet. Man blir väldigt glad och upprymd av att läsa dessa äventyrsböcker!

Kellen är lite som en själv, halvkass på det mesta och en person som sticker ut, men trots det kan man ändå ha ett roligt liv och uppleva en massa saker! Och ekorrkatten Richis som gärna äter ögon och smörkakor är ganska underhållande. Ungefär som en maffiaboss i en miniatyrkropp.

Story: Kellen is on the hunt for a monastery by the name of the Ebony Abbey. It is rumored that a monastery is supposed to exist where people with the Shadowblack can stay and feel safe from the world's persecution and hatred. But to get there Kellen and his squirrel cat Richis have to venture into the desert while Kellen is hunted by the magicians of his people that wouldn't want anything more than to kill him - sanctioned by his own father.

On the way there Kellen discovers alot about not just himself, but also about the Shadowblack, other people around him and how the world sometimes works. He might not be able to use magic like most people or use his good looks and charm, but his intellect and cunnig has saved him more than once.

The monastery and everyone living there are threatened by Kellen's father and his quest to obliterate everyone with the Shadowblack. The leader of the monastery doesn't seem to be any better than Kellen's father and is willing to sacrifice alot for what he believes in. It's up to Kellen to save them all from extinction.

My opinion of the book: I have loved every book in this series and now I'm going to try to explain why, which is not a simple task. There are few male authors who's books I've read and actually liked and this is one of the. The main character Kellen is just bad at everything. He's not handsome, big and strong, charming or a good magician. He doesn't really know anything. He feels a bit like a naive nerd that doesn't know anything of value. But alon the journey he's had to challenge himself and what he's capable of doing. He's learned what true friendship is and what you might be willing to do for those you love. He's also learned that instead of using magic he's had to use his head and think of a plan fast to get out of different life threatening situations.
This series might sound serious, but it's packed with sarcasm and humor. You can't not like Kellen and his innocence. Reading these adventurous books make you happy and excited!

Kellen is a bit like myself, pretty bad at most things and a person who stands out, but that doesn't mean you can still have a fun life and experience alot of things! And the squirrel cat Richis who loves to eat eyeballs and butter cookies is pretty entertaining. A bit like a mob boss in a miniature body.
