Handling: Nesta är Feyre och Elains storasyster med stora bekymmer. Efter allt som hände i kriget med kungen av Hybern har Nesta haft det tufft att gå vidare från alla trauman. Hon väljer att självmedicinera med alkohol och one night stands. Hon står inte ut annars. Få vet vad Nesta hanterar på daglig basis, då hon dragit sig undan och skjutit bort alla som försökt komma nära. Men en dag får både Feyre och Rhys nog. Nu måste nånting hända, så de flyttar Nesta till ett av sina hus i bergen, där hon får leva isolerat tillsammans med Cassian och Azriel. Hon ska träna med Cassian ett par timmar varje dag för att sedan hjälpa till i det underjordiska biblioteket där prästinnor bor. Nesta ser inte fram emot nåt av det, men om hon säger nej kommer hon bli dumpad i människornas rike, ett öde värre än döden.

Min åsikt om boken: Jag var först väldigt osäker på om det här verkligen är den 4:e boken i serien, för det känns mer som en fristående fortsättning som är lite löst baserad på de föregående 3 böckerna. Jag försökte googla och på vissa ställen stod det att boken är en "spin-off" och på andra ställen att det var bok nummer 4, så ja... Det är lite oklart alltså. 

Hur som helst, jag är lite osäker på vad jag tycker om boken. Jag gillade ju trilogin (A court of thorns and roses) men jag tycker att hennes böcker har blivit allt mer sexuella. Jag har hittills läst 5 av hennes böcker och varje ny bok har innehållit allt fler sexscener. Den här boken dryper av det. Det är lite tröttsamt, ärligt talat. Jag har inget emot sexscener om de fyller ett syfte och är välskrivna, men numer känns det som att Maas böcker MÅSTE innehålla massa sex och att huvudsaken är just det, inte själva berättelsen. Det är som att handlingen anpassas till sexet och inte tvärtom. Stundtals känns det som att man sitter och läser ett manus till en porrfilm... Det finns liksom ingen måtta på det. Och det ska vara så hett och drypande som möjligt. Det märks att man har tryckt in så många sexscener man bara kunde, för att det verkar förväntas? Eller det är det man tror i alla fall.
Jag tyckte handlingen var bra och intressant, för Nesta växer som person och man får följa hur hon sakta men säkert tar sig ut ur mörkret och bort från sitt trauma. Jag hade gärna haft mer av det istället för alla tusen sexscener med Cassian i princip överallt. 

Missförstå mig inte, jag tycker definitivt att Nesta och Cassian passar ihop. Man har hoppats att de ska bli ett par, men det kunde definitivt ha levererats bättre. Huvudfienden i boken är knappt med alls, även om det pratas mycket om henne. När hon sedan får vara med är det under en sista strid och den är över på typ 2 sidor. Det kändes inte genomtänkt och rätt antiklimatiskt. Det kändes från start som att sexet var huvudfokuset i boken och allt det andra var liksom sidospår, fast man försökte gömma det bakom den här fienden som de letar efter. Kunde det inte ha räckt med Nestas trauma och hennes jobb för att ta sig igenom det och den här fienden? Kärleksgrejen med Cassian borde ha varit lite mer i bakgrunden och jag personligen föredrar om karaktärerna längtar efter varandra, men inte vågar ta steget förrän en gång i slutet kanske (så länge det inte blir tjatigt). Inte i var och vartannat kapitel. Jag räknade inte, men det var säkert minst 10 sexscener i boken. Det som dock är positivt förutom Nestas utveckling är att vänskap var mycket i fokus. Hon hittade två otippade vänner som verkligen blev hennes räddning kan man säga. Det var fint och hade gärna haft mer av det!

Så ja... vad säger man? En helt ok bok, men kunde ha levererats bättre. I betyg får den en svag 3 av 5💀

Story: Nesta is Feyre and Elain's big sister with big issues. After everything that happened in the war with the King of Hybern Nesta has a hard time getting past all her traumas. She chooses to self medicate with alcohol and one night stands. She can't stand it otherwise. Few knows what Nesta deals with on a regular basis since she's withdrawn herself from the world and pushed away anyone trying to get close to her. But one day Feyre and Rhys have had enough. Something must happen so they move Nesta to one of their houses in the mountains, where she'll be isolated with Cassian and Azriel. She'll train with Cassian a few hours every day and then help out in the underground library where a bunch of priestesses live. Nesta doesn't look forward to it but if she says no, she'll be dumped in the human realm, a fate worse than death.

My opinion about the book: I was first a bit unsure if this really is the 4th book in the series, because it feels more like a stand alone that is loosely based on the 3 previous books. I tried to google it but some places said it was a "spin-off" and others said it was number 4, so yeah... It's a bit unclear.

Any way, I'm not sure what I think about the book. I liked the triology (A court of thorns and roses) but I feel like her books have become more sexual as time goes. I've read 5 of her books and each new book has had even more sex scenes than before. This book is packed with it. It's a bit tiresome, honestly. I don't mind sexscenes if they have a certain purpose and are well written, but it feels like Maas' books MUST contain a lot of sex and that's the main focus, not the story itself. It's like the plot has been adapted to the sex and not the other way around. At times it feels like you're reading the script to a porno... There's no end to it. And it must be as hot and juicy as possible. You can tell that they've put as many sex scenes in as possible, because it seems expected? At least that's what they seem to think.
I thought the plot was good and interesting because Nesta grows as a character and you get to follow how she gets out of the darkness and away from her trauma. I'd like to have had more of that instead of 1000 sex scenes with Cassian pretty much everywhere.

Don't get me wrong, I really think Nesta and Cassian are a great fit. I've been hoping for them to become a couple but it could have been delivered better. The main enemy in the book is pretty much not in it at all, even though she's talked about a lot. When she is in the book it's during a final battle and it's over in like 2 pages. It didn't feel thought through and pretty anticlimatic. From the start it felt like the sex was the main focus in the book and everything else was side tracks, but they tried to hide it behind this main enemy they're looking for. Was it not enough with Nesta's trauma and her job to get through it and this enemy? The love thing with Cassian could have been more in the background and I personally prefer when the characters long for each other, but doesn't dare to take the first step until maybe one time in the end (as long as it's not repetitive). Not in each and every chapter. I didn't count but I bet there are like atleast 10 sex scenes in the book. It's positive though, beside Nesta's development, that friendship is a big thing. She found two unexpected friends that became her rescure, you could say. That was nice and I'd have liked more of that!

So yeah... What to make of it? It's an alright book, but the delivery could have been better. I give it a weak 3 of 5💀

Handling: Efter kriget med Hybern och alla händelser relaterat till "Under berget" lever Feyre ett stillsamt liv tillsammans med Rhys. De gör sig redo för midvintersolståndet som är en högtid i Velaris. Alla kämpar med efterdyningarna av kriget, trauman och psykiska men och det är dags för förändringar, något som dock kan vara svårt att få till.

Min åsikt om boken: Detta är en kort liten bok om vardagslivet för Feyre och hennes nära och kära. De lider av minnen och drömmar från det de tidigare var med om men biter ihop och försöker kämpa på. När högtiden närmar sig får de annat att fokusera på, bland annat att köpa presenter, laga och äta god mat samt umgås. Om jag minns rätt tror jag det var fansen som ville ha en bok som denna, där man får följa karaktärerna lite mer i vardagen utan att stora händelser sker. Samtidigt har jag för mig att boken inte togs väl emot, så jag vet inte riktigt vad syftet med den var. Jag tycker dock att Maas senare böcker har dragit lite åt "tantsnusk"-hållet. Det är väldigt mycket sexscener och de är beskrivna i detalj, vilket ibland kan kännas lite för mycket. Men det beror väl samtidigt på vad man tycker om sånt. Hennes karaktärer brukar rent generellt vara ganska passionerade.
Boken var helt ok, inte jättespännande men inte dålig heller. Om man vill återvända till den här världen utan att läsa om de 3 första böckerna så passar ju  den här boken bra.

Story: After the war with Hybern and all the events "Under the mountain" Feyre is living a quite life with Rhys. They're getting ready for the Winter Solstice, which is a huge celebration in Velaris. Everyone is fighting the aftermath of the war, traumas and mental scars and it's time for change, something that's hard to get in motion.

My opinion about the book: This is a short little book about everyday life for Feyre and her close ones. They all suffer from memories and dreams about their past experience but tries to get past it. When the holiday is getting close they have something else to focus on, like getting presents, cook and eat fancy dinners and hang out. If I remember correctly the fans wanted a book like this one, where you get to follow the characters more in their every day life but without major events happening. At the same time I think I do recall the book not being well recieved, so I don't know what the purpose of the book really was. I do think that Maas's books have taken a turn toward smut. There are a lot of sex scenes and they're described in detail, which can get a bit too much at times. I guess it comes down to what you think about that. Her characters tend to be pretty passionate.
The book was alright, not very suspenseful but not bad either. If you want to return to this world without rereading the first three books then this book is perfect.

Handling: Bryce Quinlan är en halvfé och lite av en partyprinsessa. Hon älskar att gå till favoritklubben The Raven med sina bästa vänner Danika, Fury och Juniper. Där brukade de dansa, dricka och knarka till långt in på småtimmarna men en dag mördar en demon en av Bryce närmsta vänner och livet blir aldrig detsamma igen.

Två år senare mördas en person precis på samma sätt som Bryce vän, trots att den skyldige har suttit i fängelse sedan det första mordet begicks. Är det fel person som dömts för mordet eller finns det en copycat? Bryce får i uppdrag av stadens ledare att utreda morden tillsammans med den legendariska "Umbra Mortis", den brutala ängeln som lönnmördar vem än ledaren har valt ut. De har bara några få veckor på sig att lösa mysteriet och få slut på dödandet, men ledtrådarna är få och tiden knapp. Hinner de få tag i den skyldige i tid?

Min åsikt om boken: Den här boken är oerhört lång, nästan 800 sidor och lite seg. Man hade kunnat korta ner den med minst 200 sidor. Det är mycket av samma sak hela tiden, vilket blir lite trist i slutändan. Det är först när den sista etappen sätter igång som boken verkligen blir spännande och jag kunde inte lägga ner den ens i någon minut. Men innan dess hade jag nästan bara tragglat mig igenom den. Det är inte så att den är jättedålig och oerhört tråkig, utan det är mer att handlingen liksom lunkar fram i sakta mak och det händer inte så himla mycket. Sedan kändes den lite upprepande, det var mycket "snarl", "growl" och snusk. Det kändes som "tantsnusk" men för fantasyläsare. Å ena sidan liknar boken inte hennes tidigare böcker men samtidigt så gör den det. Det känns som att samma karaktärer från hennes tidigare serier har vuxit upp och flyttat till Crescent City i princip. Kanske inte så nytänkande men boken är som sagt inte kass. Den är sådär.

Störde mig dock lite på användandet av orden "vanir" och "hel". Istället för att använda det engelska ordet "hell" så hette det "hel" men var precis som helvetet, så förstod inte grejen med det. Hel och helvetet är inte samma sak eller ens samma plats. Och varför hon valde just "vanir" som beskrivning på magiska varelser förstår jag inte riktigt heller, men hon kanske bara gillade ordet? 

Boken överlag är som sagt lite mittemellan, varken bra eller dålig. Jag hade önskat att man hade fått mer info om hur världen blev som den blev, vilka de andra städerna är och hur toppledningen verkligen är. De nämndes lite kort då och då men man fick inget riktigt grepp om dem. Varför var de så mäktiga? Hur blev de det? Var kom de ifrån och varför?

Story: Bryce Quinlan is an half fae and a bit of a party princess. She likes to go to the club The Raven with her best friends Danika, Fury and Juniper. There they danced, drank and did drugs all night long but one day a demon murders one of Bryce's closest friends and life is never the same again.

Two years later there's another murder, even though the guilty one has been in prison since the first murder. Is the wrong person found guilty of the murder or is there a copycat? Bryce get a mission from the town leader to investigate the murders along with the legendary "Umbra Mortis", the brutal angel who assassinates whom ever the leader chooses. They only have a few weeks to solve the mystery and end the killings, but the clues are few and time is short. Will they find the real perpetrator in time?

My opinion of the book: This book is really long, almost 800 pages and a bit slow. It could have been shortened with at least 200 pages. It's a lot of the same thing the whole time, which made it a little boring in the end. It wasn't until the finish line that the book really got exciting and I couldn't put it down even for a minute. But before that I just tried to get through it. It's not that it's really bad or extremely boring, it's just that it trudged on in a slow pace and not much was happening. It also felt a bit repetitive, with a lot of "snarls", "growls" and sexual stuff. It felt like "tantsnusk", as we say in swedish (means like "dirty" books for older women. The genre is mostly known as "erotic romance" in english I believe), for fantasy readers. On one hand the book is not like her former books but on the other hand it does. It pretty much feels like the same characters from her other books grew up and moved to Crescent City. It might not be very original but the books is not all that bad, it's just so-so.

I was annoyed though by the use of the words "vanir" and "hel". Instead of using the english word for hell, it was called "hel", but was pretty much like hell so I didn't really get that. Hel and Hell is not the same thing or even the same place. And why did she choose "vanir" to describe magical beings? I have no clue but maybe she just liked the word?

The book is overall a bit so-so as I previously wrote, not good but not bad. I wished we had gotten more info about how the world became as it is, the other cities and how the top government really was like. They were mentioned now and then but there wasn't enough about them to get an understanding of why they were so powerful, how they got to that point, where they're from and why.
